I see so many threads about how shit the battery life is, how they encode your music and so on. I know Ipods look good, but I like sony too...
I was wondering if anyone has one and what it is like...
thinking of spending some cash

kezza, I think it puts it in some proprietary sony format, the only real drawback I heard.

keep in mind the new ipod has extended its battery life. But compared to the newest creative player (which has way too many buttons) and the sony network player, the battery life is pretty lousy.
The ipod does have unbeatable navigation, and iTunes is great software, it ca do alot.
Unfortunately I do not know much about the sony, but from what I know, it is even lighter, and close to the same size as the ipod.
I would find out which stores that are in your area sell both and go give them a listen and a test run.

the ipod batteries are fine - all hype - and you can't burn mp3's to that sony piece of shit - they burn to their own proprietary format. fuck sony - get an ipod

the archos 20g is sweet, got mine for under $200 and it's usb2.0 which is faster than firewire plus it's literally just a freaking hard drive so there's no special software or anything needed.
ipods are cooler though. dangit.

I was wondering if there was a drag and drop player out there.
I have the Net MD at the moment and im sick of converting my songs so they take up dould the hard disk space.
maybe not a sony then

tried them all out... the only one that is awesome all around is the ipod..
that sony is a pos.. wont even let you put MP3s on em.
And another thinig you want to think about is the software your computer uses to categlog and update stuff. They all are crap except itunes.. which does an awesome job at everything accross the board.

vena went through this also.. bought a few and returned them and ended up with an ipod
http://www.yayhooray.com/thread/…there is a reason lots of people want it and have it.. not just cuz its a cool toy.. but because its quality and all round the bomb

I think 30 hours of battery life is the best thing abou this player.. Been eying it up for a while now..
And it does support MP3 and WMA3...
QUOTE FROM SITE:
"Plays Back in ATRAC3™ Audio Format, Supports Multiple Internet Audio Formats (MP3, WMA3, WAV)3 The Network Walkman player plays back ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus™ files and supports the most popular Internet audio formats."I'd go for this one.. simply down to the battery life.. you're gonna get at least twice as much..

I wonder if you can just drop mp3's on it... it is going to be hard to sway the apple snobs ;)

If you can drag and drop I'd go for it

unless you are listening on blown headphones from a crackerjack box, dont buy the minidisc. sounds so bad its shameful, (not the 48kbs remarks) sony totally lies about their storage. if you store at the higher settings you dont get much more than an hour or two per disc.. and then still their compression sounds horrid. And their proprietary sonicstage software you need to use to load it up is equally shameful.
I bought a 20gig rio karma however and i've been in love for 6 months.. plays ogg, smaller than the ipod, clever navigation, and an unusually loud headphone amp.
- Nematoth0
dude.. its not a MD player he's talking about.. its a HDD player.. But I always thought minidisc was pretty decent.. one of my friends is an audiophile and uses his MD player rather than an MP3 player..

the archos jukebox is drag and drop -
i don't know what you mean donvinoti, they file management system that i use is just windows(or MAC) OS, so it's just file manipulation.
On Friday I copied 2GB of music from my man with the plan at work, went home, opened the file browser and organized everything, then dragged everyhting into Winamp and hit play. very easy, no extra software, just raw mp3 files.
- joe_fritz0
I would HIGHLY recommend the archos line. It's all drag and drop. No need for any organization programs or itunes or even proper tagging. You just plug it in and it shows up as an HDD.

me 2! WAY better! The Apple doesn even support wma or atrac which are both superior formats to mp3. These Appleonians keep on keeping on(?)
- slag_you_off0
have to say that that is cool
- Nematoth0
it certainly does look cool.. but with that LCD screen I would say it eats up the batteries..
Don't like the styling of the other archos products though.. kind ugly..
