bullshit indeed.
it is 5 million per square inch. thats about 2200 dpi, and for line-art this is nothing special to me.
- jox0
The human eye can see 9600 dpi.
Man, i have bullshit on my speed dial here.
- BonSeff0
there is a limit to how many dots you lay down for it to make a visually recognizable pattern.
5mil dpi is ludacrisp.500lpi would turn the paper into a soggy mess
you got zinged my man.
- iDp0
hehe who fucking knows, he'll be here in 30 minutes. Isn't line screen actually the main issue? 1,100 line? I'm hoping he will leave it here so I can investigate differences here. Of course you wont be able to tell the difference with the naked eye.
- iDp0
thats actually what I was thinking too, wouldnt that SOAK the paper?!? But anyways like I said the proof is in the puddin' and the puddin is on its way.
- BonSeff0
tell that dude to hop on this thread when he gets there and
esplane hisself
- brandelec0
you should walk up to him and right when he says 'hello' slap his face and yell 'you fuckin liar!'
then grab the poster he brought and beat him with it and if it starts to bend in the middle, use 'em like nunchukus

hahahaha
- stewart0
hahahaaa!
"Of course you wont be able to tell the difference with the naked eye."
the average poster is viewed from 15-3 meters. so WTF are we talking about, even if it WAS true.
that's it. i'm out.
- BonSeff0
no doubt. and take a picture of it and put it on the web at 72dpi so we can all freak out.
haha
thats like watching a tv commmercial about a new tv showing off it's brilliant clarity.
- iDp0
I'll cut it up into 5 million peices and send it out to all you bitches for examination!
- iDp0
K, I just met with the guy. Took them 15 years to nail this down using different dot gains, inks, sheets as well as different plate manufacturers. The ripping program they use actually allowed them to acheive more than 256 (?) shades of grey (which was previously the cap).
Anyways my take on the poster is that its fucking flawless. The design isn't all that great, its basically a photo with paint brushes and paints and things. But the detail of it looks like its actually there. The brushes are amazing looking.
I guess they actually did count the dpi, some organization who was disputing their claim and it turned out to be right on the money. He left some propaganda magazine with me that has all sorts of letter from graphics organizations, so I'll read some of them and see if I can figure out some exact specs on it. But seriously the print is very very lifelike.
- stewart0
yes ok, but eh
was it dots per inch, or dots per SQUARE inch.
- iDp0
what is the standard measurement of a dpi? What kind of measurement is an 'inch' if it isnt square? So if you are measuring an 'inch' un-squared what is your width of that inch?
I really don't understand what you are getting at.
- iDp0
yeah I just found this on the web about it.
'Commercial printer Faust Printing of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., managed to squeeze nearly
5 million halftone dots per square inch into this four-color process poster. By means of contrast, the unaided eye stops discerning individual dots at around 300 lines or 360,000 dots per square inch. The poster was a finalist in the Printing Industries of America’s first-ever "They Say It Couldn’t Be Done" awards.'

YOU SEE?
it is all misleading.
- snowcat0
sounds goddamn incredible. but c'mon, really kids -
loop: Something having a shape, order, or path of motion that is circular or curved over on itself, et al.
loupe: A small magnifying glass usually set in an eyepiece and used chiefly by watchmakers and jewelers.

I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to rip the shit out of this guy.. I mean, he's boasting about how many dots his printer has.. heheh... do you think..err.. that this dood.. like.. ever has sex?!
