I lament the situation that our two party systems has left our countries politics in. The two party systems has failed American as of late (not that politcal systems that support multiple parties are TONS better).
It's just sad that the politcs of money have driven BOTH sides to such extreme views.
I may be wrong (and I am just speaking for myself) but I truly believe that a candidate that represented the Left's devotion to the environment, labor, trade relations and the Right's devotion to social issues, defense/military (with a dose of restraint), etc. would be elected with a 90% margin or better.
Mix and match your issues, but my point remains the same. The HIGHLY polarized views and (seemingly incompatible) stances of most of our political figures are a result of the powerful lobbies and the extreme amount of money required to mount a successful campaign these days.
If a truly center-oriented party could be organized it would revolutionize our country.
*rant over thanks!

Is this thing still on?
Where's a good rolling blackout when you need one?

A lot of people consider "Clinton Democrats" as being a new party of centrists. Things were going well for awhile too, but apparently getting a hummer is national politic shattering stuff that sends the masses scurrying back to the right.

bush had his turn and fucked it up. you can bitch and moan about the two party system all day, but in the end it is all we have right now. And if noone is going to come up with a better idea than ralph nader, we are stuck with it.
- xaoscontrol0
great words dsynth.
People need to get involved at the local level. If you're interested in an independant candidate, then you need to find them and start supporting them.

Anyway, if you've had you eyes open for the last 15-20 years you'd have noticed that center is moving towards the right. There is no polarization.

mrdobs, what a valid point, all the talking in the world won't change anything.
It seems a daunting task to instigate a successful third party but it sure seems like it might make a diff.
Of course i'm expert at pointing out problems and then not providing solutions....
:-(
