i do not know how to mix, but i would like to learn. i just came across a set of turn tables and records for $700. can someone who knows what this is tell me if this is a good idea? here is what it includes:
"pair gemini turntables in turntable flight cases, 2 channel numark mixer, turntable stand, 2 8ball record bags, pair stanton needles, pair ortofon needles, two and a half crates of records about 250 records. the mixer needs a new crossfader"how much would a cross fader run me? thanks.

I have no clue about gemini tables, their mixers are generally damn good so far as I know, I personally wouldn't bother to buy anything other than 1200's or 1210's but hey, and dont bother to pay for records unless the guy is really into the same shit as you... but hey, I'm no DJ, just common sense...
- rasko40
all you need: the mixer and 2 1210's, fuck the rest.
- ldww0
how much is 2 1210's

tru was thinking bout buying my friends 1200's
he still wants quite a bit for em tho
they are the kind of thing that shouldnt loose too much value tho if u look after em, u know

thing is with tech's is that they will last you literally FOREVER, seriously, you will never need to upgrade or replace, they are so worth it, and the resale is too good in case you get bored.
- tymeframe0
yeah, i'd really save up the extra $ and get Technics.
If you're not feeling the dj thing, the resale value is damn high on them. If you purchase crappy tables and do love djing, you're going to eventually want technics. Basically you'll be buying your shit twice.
Either way you go, avoid beltdrive tables, they suck and they'll fuck you if you get a gig using club tables. The torque difference is night and day.

direct drive is the ONLY way to buy, noone will dispute that.

what about this?

1200's are the way to go. no contest.
www.turntablelab.com has a pretty good breakdown on all their stuff - ie what each table is best for, what it can do, what it can't do.. maybe those gemenis are on there?

anyone know of a good place to learn the basics of all the equipment i will need to learn? i gots no idea on this.

I'd start out with a quick Google search on beat matching. That's what you're going to want to start learning first. A lot of it will depend on what you're spinning. Once you get it all down, it's as easy as counting to four.
I've been spinning on belt drives for years. My friend was an old school DJ and he told me if I could beat match on belt drives I could beat match on anything... which I can!
Have Fun!
