Good crit.
It's hard to take your corporate marketing solution seriously when you're trying to rip off wefail; kaws; or whatever.
- versa0
JK just wants the job to rebrand it.........hahahahaha... teasin'
it IS a good crit, of a cool product
- rasko40
eeuw yeah, aside from the fact of it not fitting, its one of the most poorly rendered 'throwup' style lettering i've seen in a long time.. pure toy
- scarabin0
throwup's a good name for that style
- DutchBoy0
and they are selling to ADVERTISERS??
omg..
well criticised Jason..
actually i just came home after a loooong boring drive and couldn't help but think about NT.. and it's potential.
We should incorporate more of these 'reviews'.. or return the articles anyway... there's still room for a dropdown!
:)

that logo smacks of "we have a friend who's a graphic designer"
- DutchBoy0
haha, werd, Rand.
- rasko40
more like someones nephew wants to be a graphic designer
- DutchBoy0
or perhaps like:
"hey we need a human logo!"
"well what do humans like these days?"
"humans are into urban shit man!"
"like what?"
"like graffiti dude!"
"k.."
"i know this kid in my street who does l33t cartoons and shit yo!"
"well can he come up with something?"
"well he's only 12.."
"dude, the cheaper the better"
"let's get this rollin'"
*high fives..

there is a logo or at least a "HL" under the ugly throw-up tho...

while JK discussed about the design aspect of it, i would tackle the system aspect of it.
human locatior seems like a project i did 5 years ago using director and web cam to track movement while displaying different set of images as a person passed by.
this is cool as a project but there are fundamental flaws in the system. Maybe they have solved it but i havent or thought about it too much. "what if there are multiple targets to track?" The idea is to give transitional advertisment but if there are multiple targets than you are not giving any experience to any.
remember this same effect can be achieved using triangular or hexigon shaped strips that can present a image in certain angels as you walk pass it. siminlar to turning billboard that you see, except its stationary.
interesting thing is that this effect can be achieved via multidimensional paper that has 2 more images imprinted on it (like the little thing that when you move it it changes).
to me, this is very stationary. from working for museums and creating physical interactives, i find this as an old idea and old tools. there are other innovative methods that have been implemented to give the user better experiences in museums. it seems like some marketers got the idea that using movement will attract the potential buyers. but remember we could display everything on the display (tv, projection, etc).
Few things comes to mind. One, will the viewer understand whats going on? Will they dismiss it as another poster? Will they appricate it if they understood how it worked? Will this lead to more brand awareness and monetary exchange? The factors involving brand awareness is very difficult when the focus is not concertrated.
example, Bank of America did a poilot program few years back using full sized interactive screen (6 feet plasma screen) to show case their physical interactivity. The user could move the mouse via hand from 3 feet away and click to view more information. This was very exciting but was it successful? no it wasnt. To me this is more of a gimick than anything else. If you are doing this in an isolated envrionment, the user is perceptive to the message. but when in an open environment, the user is distracted further with setting and not personalized information that is conveying.
But do you want personalized information at your face for everyone to watch? "minority report" show cased personal display of personal information at its best. forget privacy.
i saw and see alot of potential using this method of information transfer but there are alot of technological and information design aspect that needs to be solved. i would love to see more intergration of multimedia and physical interactives and not just pretty display of images or motion on TV.
would i want to work on the similar project again? hell yes.

few more things
since the performace of the flash has gotten faster, you can achieve this process using stationary web cam and flash app. I prefer director since it is more robost to this day.
if you are a hard core c++ programmer, this can achieve much easier and more effective.
if you can program hardware (program chips) you can make a solid enviornment that can track multiple targets. so far i have been able to track up to 5 targets.
remember, tracking multiple targets at different speeds while outputting information can over load the program. the program failure rate is much higher. if you want to get better target tracking, you need a camera that has higher refresh rate. web cam have hard time tracking 2 or more targets cause when the target moves too fast, it can not distingish if its a new target or not and hard to disthingish to track the movement of the target from left to right.
one of these days i will post my research paper on this matter... due to my laziness, i will decline at this moment

Nerd.
I kid, I kid.
- talentpun0
A lot of these kinds of systems seemed to end up as glorified mood rings and screensavers.
- ********0
yes pun
i am a nerd.
so far, these kind of systems work only well in isolated environement.
this is the same problem that the US military has; imagery identification, tracking and targeting.
most of military systems have targeting capabilities but it can not target specifics in multi-target environment.
- ********0
forgot to say..
the US Mil has new targeting and tracking system that can track its target via virtual map and landscape using GPS.
you tell the bomb where to go, look for which landmark and what your target GPS cords are.

I worked in a now defunct New Media lab for a couple of months. The hardest part was getting up to speed and figuring out what the hell New was.
- ********0
haha New Media lab,,,
when you refuse to research on what other people are doing, what ever you make becomes new
- DutchBoy0
haha, Dinky, I KNEW you made sweet graphics and pretty decent furniture pieces.. but yer a nerd! yer so smart! ;P
on the other hand, does anyone remember that link on NT about this projector that could project interactive motion graphics on the floor like balls, and then bypassers could kick those balls as if they are real?
I cannot find the link anymore..
- DutchBoy0
i mean it respectfull..
cuz i feel like a genuine threadkiller lately..
don't leave this thread!
hellloO!!
- ********0
ahah Dutchboy
indeed i am a NERD...
i cant find that link also.. there is also that link where you walk in to the screen display area and you are fire..
these work all under same principle..
you capture the screen point using web cam (or camera), convert the input image in to black and white to detect any new objects and you refresh the camera image to see if there are other objects that are not part of captured scene. faster refresh, faster tracking image..
