Does anyone know the best way to pay off debt? I'm about to start college and I have debt collectors bugging me about money. Has anyone been in this same experience before? I'm thinking it might be possible to ask for more money from collegel loans that can pay off my debt so that I can worry about it after i graduate. Please help!!!

shit. had the same debt collector problem. it was when i was in college though. what a pain in the ass. i forgot that you actually have to pay that credit card money back : )
what ever you do, don't settle your debt with them (ie. pay less than you actually owe them) pay them in full. whether it be in installments or whatever.debt is debt. so getting more money from your school is just the same as borowing money from your credit company (although your school probably has much lower interest rates) do you have a credit union? or can you get a loan from your bank to pay that credit shit off? whatever you have to do just get rid of that credit card debt, asap! the longer that shit hangs in collection the worse it is for you.

paying off debt with a student loan is not neccessarilly (sp?) a bad idea, the interest is lower and other that jazz, plus te interest is tax deductible.
But honestly if I was you I would recognize that if loan collectors are calling you, you have already started yourself down a problematic road with debt.
Remeber debt free = 1 way of being free.
Trust me I've been there.

Tell them your situation. That you're a student and you just don't have the money to pay them. Offer them a token monthly payment (something really small) so that it looks good on the agent that is looking after your case. If they talk tough stand tall... Tell them they can do whatever they like but it doesn't change the fact that you're a student with no money.

Im sort of in the same situation right now have been working my ass off thiswhole summer to pay off my credit cards have no collectors calling me but i payed off 3 grand in the past 2.5 months and it feels really good to know that in about another 2-3 months i will be debt free and all the money i make will go into my pocket instead to some large money hungry giant
Debt is worse than a girlfriend cuz at least you get something back for giving her all your money

student loans also offer you the ability of not paying until youre done with school. plus the exceptionally low interest rates. id use school loans to pay your shit.
try sallymae. there's a few other ones that are like that.

set up a meeting with your student loan company representative...they are more often than not extremely helpful...you will be asking for a deferment of payment because of a lack of income due to your status as a student...if you are still in school there should be no problem with that...unless you are talking about paying off other debts that are not student loans...
