I was hoping to get a consensus. Do you usually post your banners for client review before or after you animate them? Of course it's an easier sell if you animate them, but the catch is if they don't like them you've wasted a lot of time. What is your process?

i dont do banners but if I did, I reckon its dependent on budget which I would imagine would be low, meaning I would describe or roughly storyboard the ani, leave the actual animation til last because else they will wonder how much the 'magic' is worth..
does that make sense

you would be surprised how much people are paying for banners these days. In the entertainment industry, most studios have a higher online marketing budget than they do for the actual website. We are currently posting static comps, then animating them after sign off which is safe. I'm just wondering how many firms actually spend more time with the client in pre-production selling them on the concept and then going straight into design and animation before letting them see anything.

yeah, static comps is almost always the first step for me. although it's hard sometimes not to animate them, it gives the client more to look forward to when complete....or something like that : )

present key frames of the animation always. Standard process for all motion/animation design.
