does anyone know how to create a blurred/transparant effect like this:

The effect is done in Photoshop using mosaic effect or scaling an image only a few pixels wide horizontally. Then this stretched image is imported into Flash as PNGs or PSDs or something. Then you animate the bitmap images (as opposed to vector) in Flash. Why? Do you want to copy it?

i don't necessarily want to copy it. i just like learning how things are done and experimenting with them. thanks for the tips!

it's just a bunch of masks with tweens there, you can do more with AS
