At last I will be able to create the mini-me I have always wanted...

Ever meet an asshole? Now, imagine him twice.
That's the best arguement against cloning I can think of.
Number two has something to do with said asshole's inability to comprehend birth control.

seriously though, I have been readin up on this, I'm planning writting a sci-fi book, yeh I know (wanker) but I thought I'd give it a go...
With present technology as it is (which is a big given) it would take them about 200 years to clone something as complex as a human, and even then they still don't know if it is possible. I don't think it'll happen in our lifetime, but it isnt as if all this stuff is leading to it one day.

but I'll learn how to write first before I start.... :(
- gabriel_pc0
why don't these people visit their local animal shelter and adopt a perfectly good pet for $60?
- zedvox0
don't worry Arnold will save us from ANY clone!!!!
- gabriel_pc0
Arnold IS a clone!!!!!
- jevad0
I do believe that we have the technology to be able to clone a human within 20 - 30 years

Possibly the biggest complexity is the legal implication. The process of cloning a human should technically be no more difficult than cloning a cat.
--In a quiet room with a light Coltrane playing in the background, take an egg...
--remove and discard the eggs genetic material.
--Insert genetic material (nucleus) from a cell donated by the subject to be cloned (either yourself or the nicest looking member of the opposite sex you can have agree to the process)
--for nourishment and to make sure the egg doesn't die during the procedure, place it on a bed of room temperature tofu.
--cover with another piece of tofu or... if no more tofu is available, a paper towel will do.
--place it in a nice safe spot to grow.
--Leave for 9 months while observing periodically.Anybody got a spare egg and a pair of tweezers?

"a human should technically be no more difficult than cloning a cat."
it is infintesibley (?) more complex. A cat for example has lets say 50,000,000 dna structures, where as a human has 50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0... ( hundred 0's) as I understand it anyway. Apparantly It is a whole new ball game.
apparantly

I may be wrong... but no matter how many dna structures there are... the process calls for placing a complete nucleus from the clonee into a healthy egg. No?

i love watching design/computer nerds debate the cloning process.
- toe-knee0
fuck cloning, they should be concentrating on making robots to do our stupid jobs for us.
- slag_you_off0
robot fluffers...
Or maybe you could clone Angelina Jolie as a personal fluffer...
Im going to the toilet to think about that one

I could do with a clone. He could stay home with my wife while I went out drinking.
Sign me up for one.

Give me my Cherry 2000 and I'll be a happy man.
