hey lo all,
been working on this idea with a local Real Estate Training company over the past while...
basically its a site for Real Estate agents where they can create a sort of "Personal Profile microsite" of themselves as an agent to email out to there perspective clients
so basically they would have a sub-domain address (ie:http://theirnamehere.myprofi...
and email this out as a way of generating business & introducing themselves
Heres an example of what i thought it might look like,
http://webdev3.otago.ac.nz/~phut…
http://webdev3.otago.ac.nz/~phut…
but we would have to match it to the Agents company logo/colour scheme each time (should be resonably easy)
Still in draft/concept stages but nearly ready to put it out there and see how it goes
The training company seems to think there would be a resonable demand for this sort of thing, and they have many many agent clients here & overseas
so basically just wondered what people thought about it, and if you had any other bright ideas!?

thats nice mate - v simple but striking layout....

sweet thanks Jevad
I actually thought my design was a lil weak/basic! :D
but I'm just keen to get it up and going to see if its really worth my time u know
just wondering if people thought I was on the right track with the whole 'Subdomain URL' and 'microsite' idea for each Agent (?)

not a bad call with subdomain, but you could also go with search engine friendly urls:
http://www.myprofilepage.com/Ste…

woops, got parsed.
I meant:
www.myprofilepage.com/stevenshar…...

im down with it...
doesn't seem like something you would do, which makes it even better in a way.

i think the idea with the subdomain is that the Agents dont really know bugger all bout the web
so they think that having their name 'first' in the subdomain is somehow more 'personalised' if you know what i mean.
..I have the opportunity with my host server to have unlimited subdomains, and therefore host all the sites in the same place, saving on costs at my end
also the fact that the agents would email out their site, means that searching isnt such a big factor for their site
did that make any sense :?
thanks b

'doesn't seem like something you would do, which makes it even better in a way.'
..not sure i get u dab!?
u mean somthing I personally would have done ?

go with what _b_ said - people think about sub directories rther than subdomains
- blackspade0
hmmm, the whole sub-domain idea came from the Client
they are VERy keen on it

This is a great idea...
... the microsite and sub-domain work for me.
Do you have them talked into a special mail campaign for each of their clients?
The Real Estate folks need to get the word out about their sub-domain. Let them begin their 'introduction' process to their prospective clients by sending a quick mailer (double-sided Digitally Printed cards are cheap and 'appear' to be quality)...
... it's more money in your pocket - and provides more of a chance that the Agent's microsite will have visitors.
Just a thought. :)

personalisation is the key i think for all especially for vain estate agents - they'll want to know how you'll make them different from all the rest. and knowing next to bugger all about the web myself i agree with you spade on the my name first angle. g.luck

'personalisation is the key i think for all especially for vain estate agents'
couldnt have put it better!
somthing about the /stevensharp sub-directory just isnt as exciting for them
weird i know

Looks cool Blackspade, nice work - great idea too!

Cheers Riz ! :)

i think that subdomains are more personal than subdirectories.
...of course the first thing that i want to do is find out what the root directory is all about,...reagrding the design, i think that you need to make friends with CSS. it is going to help in your quest to change the look to match each individuals needs.
otherwise, you are going to be slicing images all day cuz some douche-bag wants a purple site.

hopefully will get a few bites! and maybe even make a bit of xtra $$$$ :D
- blackspade0
heavey T
it is in CSS, the only thing that isnt is the nav and the footer in the examples
just be being lazy, the final exmaples will all be text/CSS
good point tho man, thanks :)
- blackspade0
any thoughts on how much i could get away with charging!?
;)
initial talks with the training comany was a '60/40' split on $599 in the clients currency
- dablammit0
i dunno...i mean you cant judge my actual work from my personal site either...
but anyway i like it, job well done.
