I would work for the top bidder. Dont give a fuck, i would even do the devils website if he paid me enough. Its not killing anyone and I don't see how me talking money off him for a crappy website is supporting him or what he does.

yeah it's a bit of a grey area in my moral ethics - I could never do anything for hardcore porn...but I do see playboy as 'gentlemans' pornography...and you can't pull the whole - 'objectification of women' deal because they do playgirl also.
These are grown men and women - flaunting their bodies for good money because they can and feel good doing so. WHo is it hurting?

jevad is teh 5%

I object to your objection to Porn and Tobacco and even Religion. Why not a million other brands and products? I think Religion is selling you a lifestyle, and all other brands seek to sell you a lifestyle too. Thats why they employ designers and marketeers. And Tobacco is no more destructive and pointless than a million other things/products. And porn, aint nuttin wrong with a bit of Porn - unless it was the fucked up kind where naive women are being exploited and abused.
Personally, for the right price, i'd do almost anything. Almost... maybe you shud do design work only for charities and political causes you believe in and like promoting the arts or something. Then you'd be less of a hypocrite with your bourgeois values.
- Kuz0
but then you'd be called a hippy and none of your friends will like you...
better to just feed the system and feel like your making a difference by being all like "i wouldn't do this this or this" to ease your conscience and make you feel like your worthless life is actually making a difference.

----------------------i can't quite agree with this. even if your action doesn't change a thing, it matters to YOU. you stop being worthless to YOU. and you can't think that your action go unnoticed. that's how things slowly change directly around you.
(capitals for emphasis, not shouting)
- Kuz0
ah well. Thats a very egocentric way of being winter. I'm not all into egocentrism. Some people are, so thats cool.
- winter0
egocentric? you are subverting things here kuz.
if my action is in accordance with a common benefit howcome am i being an egocentric if i even loose money by it?
the contrary is egocentric.
- winter0
what you're saying is really an excuse for your own individualism.
- Kuz0
you're not subverting shit. ur making a personal choice not to work for someone to ease your conscience - and thats ALL you're doing. Everytime you buy practically anything, anytime you watch TV - practically anytime you do anything you are still gonna be supporting those companies and systems. The same investment banks and trust funds that own Tobacco companies and pay into Republican party coffers are the ones who invest in your iPods and your Diesel shoes and your favourite Supermarket chains. The whole system of capitalism interchanges with each other and everything else to exploit human vices and accentuate the worst in human society.
- Kuz0
no i'm not. I'm explaining my cynicism.

Morals...
What about producing graphic design work for companies that sell over priced goods to people (some who can't afford them)?
What about producing graphic design work for companies that target younger age groups in order to sell unhealthly goods or services?
What about producing graphic design work for companies whose business practices force out competition, industry growth and have a stranglehold on labour?
What about producing graphic design work for companies that treat their employees like shit?
What about producing graphic design work for companies whose end product will damage th environment?
...bottom line, this business (graphic design) is all about lying and providing false dreams and a perfect worlds that will never exist. We operate to provide a service that convinces the people to spend money and there's sweet F.A you can do about it.

"to ease your conscience"...
... that's it in a nutshell.
morals are something that effect your conscience...
... and those w/out 'morals' are sociopaths... right?

I have managed to spend the last year and a half + of my designing life (while studying) only working for non-profit orgs, charities, arts groups etc. I'm not bragging cos I don't earn huge amounts of money and I can probably only do this because I don't live a lavish champagne lifestyle (all the time anyway). It is easier to find this kind of work when your actually involved with these groups. It is also more enjoyable because the people you work for are generally nicer, more chilled-out people.

I have no morals. I have ethics ;)
- pascii0
morals are the last thing that keep you from becoming a egoistic narrowminded himan being.
same as being good to your neighbour, help others and be honest to those you love.
- Kuz0
good for you lowimpakt.
