Is it just me or is the design scene starting to pick up? Seems to be lots of job postings in the past month all over the world.
Howz things looking where you are?
- RIZ0
very true, theres quite a few jobs appearing in NZ, I believe it's due to the advertising companies starting to crank again...
- toe-knee0
more jobs = more coke
- RIZ0
How is the market in Sydney?
- Mick0
Looks like things are picking up - but never in leaps and bounds. Still lots of competition around. The ratio of jobs:designers is still pretty crazy.
I think the advertising agencies are getting a little businer, which usually means a bit more outsourcing to deisgn firms and freelancers.

I just turned up in sydney and im turning work down... seems like a freelancers paradise after London. The rates are great I did a weeks Video work last week fo $50 an hour, payed my rent for the next 2 months...
now about that coke
- RIZ0
so you would say that London is not exactly pumping out the jobs at the moment???
- Mick0
Where's the work coming from Slag? I think you mentioned recently u were going through Aquent mostly?
- slag_you_off0
yeh through Aquent...
but I just keep applying to everything, send speculative emails etc...
A well worded email can work wonders... Don't know about London job market as I havent looked for a job there for 4 years... but the money goes further here.
I use this:
Hi I saw your ad on .....
I am a web / graphic designer from London, freelancing in Sydney for a year or two (although I would concider a full-time position if one
arose).I have worked across a broad range of media from a wide range of websites to CD Roms and touch screens for museums, to art directing
a magazine and corporate branding and style guidelines.I am taking the liberty of sending you my CV.
regards
Ian

In Atlanta, Ga. ... to be a designer means.. that you know every coding language out there.. and have maybe touched "the Photo Shop" and oh yeah.. Quark spress"
very little good design here, and that which is.. has been holed up by people in positions for 5 + years... i'm just waiting for the day.. that all designers in Atlanta are invited to this huge party.. and then slipped a pill.. and are too sick to come in the next day.. causing them all to get fired.. and open up the jobs that have been filled since 97..
however.. i digress..
on the other hand.. i'm happy for the rest of the world.. at least some people can do exactly what they want to in this world...

The Canadian JOB market is very much dead, especially in print. Which no matter where you are it's extremely hard to find a job in print anymore.

have had three offers this month alone outside of my contracting gig
- xaoscontrol0
I think so. I had several job openings come up over the course of a couple of weeks and I felt I qualified for all of them. that doesn't mean much, but there are alot more jobs opening up..at least in my market
- the_pencil0
shite!
- idsgn0
canada is not so dead, im totally overwhelmed at the moment and turning things down.
- mike_g0
Are you doing print or web work idsgn? And I'm not talking about contract work, I mean fulltime work, and I mean decent studios, none of this direct mail or ad design shit..
