Hmmm. For design, or practically any other job that requires some skill you would need to be able to communicate in Japanese. On top of that, you have to have something to offer that they can't find locally here.

I know of a few models. They can't get around fulltime on it, and it wouldn't sponsor a visa.
The ones I know work part time with other stuff and take on jobs as they come.
Supposebly, there were a (foreign) model boom here before, or so I heard, but that's going on now.
There are other jobs you might be able to do here that could sponsor a visa. But if you're serious about your career I think the wisest thing to do is to study Japanese, very hard, and work up something offerable to the Japanese market. But before that, maybe you should come over once or twice to scoop things out.

I wasn't serious about the modelling thing :)i'm not ready to move to Japan, but i sure would like to check it out one of these days. if i ever make the trip, i will be sure to let you know.
