any idea wtf is goin on here?... (screen shot)
They should be PDF icons!?
http://webdev3.otago.ac.nz/~phut…Sometimes randomly my OS X gets confused with its icons and does weird things like that (above)... other times it displays the 'Preview' apps icon instead of arrows in my system windows
Anyone know what this means, or how to fix it, kinda annoying (?)

I've seen it on every OS X machine I've used to varying degrees
You fix it by restarting.
I don't know how to prevent it.

i wonder if there is the same Rebuild of the Desktop like there was in os 9.
try fixing your permissions as well, start from the system disc then run the Disk Utility under File.

weird?! never had that icon. but it is really annoying when my .swf files ALWAYS open in illustrator! what the fuck. don't open illustrator you fucking bastard OS!
sorry, i just hate that. i smell a adobe/macromedia conspiracy

lvl,
choose an swf icon, do a command "I" (get info) and choose whatever app you want to open your swf's with. be sure to tell it to do it with all of them

ahhh.... thanks pocho. i thought i had done this already, but maybe not. i'm on a pc now but i'll try that tomorrow at work.
thanks again

use cocktail to run permissions or terminal.

Do what Pocho and Smellvetica suggested and you won't have any icon problems.
Get Info is one way, or Control+Click on file, "Open with", right down the bottom "Other..." and pick your app and make sure you tick "Always Open With", this is neat when you just want to view a PDF with Preview instead of Acrobat to save a few seconds of your life (it does add up over time).
I auto run Cocktail every week, it fixes a lot of problems, and other noticable differences are permission repair and general snapier OS and Apps, it's a shareware but well written and cheap, reminds me of Norton Utilities or Conflict Catcher in the OS 8/9 days - yes, I've been a Mac freak ;o)
