I love'em!

i don't. It's one sure fire way to end up ripping off work instead of doing something origional.

schmood board!

moodboard is not ripping off. is reading design books to rip off?
schnuckiputz!

show the client the mood board to propose the sort of thing you want to do and then watch how upset they get when they don't get the stuff you showed them in the first place. Better client relationships, less mood boards.

no way moodboards rock!
a great tool to keep semantics and style present in your design. take them for what they ARE. A DESIGN TOOL.

bad communication > false expectations > angry client

I accept your point, and agree, I just think that alot of designers clearly rely on their boards too much and end up with something that lacks an idea and origionality.
Mood boards are dangerous in the wrong hands!!

what is a mood board?
- mitsu0
it's a surfboard with a thermal-reactive surface. putting warm feet on it will cause the strip to change colors, 'indicating ones mood'
apparently it's the lastest craze in the designer world?

i dont like them - they rarely contain a single thought
(and they'e a bit 90's)

I Like them because it is a nice way to ease the client into the work - a little bit of visual fluff to ease the tension instead of jumping right into the creative, which can be jolting to some.

are the moodboards a bit 90's,
ahhhhhhaaaaa!
so funny! is the internet a bit 90's?
eheeeeee!!!

interesting debate here. That point about the client getting pissed when you don't carbon copy your mood board is true. but the moodboard itself is exactly that. It should be somehting you do for yourself to guide you, inspire you, lead you to an original goal yet live in the same feel as your board. If you can keep it out of the clients eye DO IT. If your doing the mood board for THEM, then it's not really fair. Do the project first, then make the moodboard from snippets of the finish. And have a jar of piss ready, incase things get nasty.
