What do you consider the ideal environment to work in as a designer? An ad agency?
For the past 4 years I've been doing in house corporate work which pays well but can be boring and make for boring portfolio examples.

the ideal environment for me would be not working, no need for showing up and receive a $1 million paycheck every month.

I'm thinking a whore house might be the ideal setting for a brotha like myself.....or at least a strip club.

work directly for a brand in which you beleive in the products they produce.

working in a whore house for $1million a month

well obviously lots of bondage would be involved as well as full independence in art direction

I hear ya heavyarms - inhouse can get boring. Ideal would be working for myself or for a design house doing print and web for kick ass clients

creative minds, cool dudes, cool girls and cool music.
Yeah, and doing graphics for a company I can believe in as well.
Or maybe I should just open the coffee house that I'm dying to open. Open turntables, Zeitgeist coffee, tons of books, Wi-Fi and a killer sound system. Outdoor seating, chess boards with timers and good food!
Man I wish I had some investors...

Having a project manager in my office would help my life immensely. Too much of my time is spent managing the multiple jobs I'm working on. I often work from concept to completion with little support on most projects, so it gets to be really draining.
Ideally I'd like to be in a small shop of about 5 - 10 people that all have the same goals, but with different skills. Good clients would be nice, but even with good clients and great projects, it can all go down the shitter if the management isn't there.

for me it would be only working with things i enjoy...and not working whent there is no creativity....I gueess just bumming around and stillg et paied...that would be nice....

i would like to be the manager of a chocolate factory run by large breasted hookers.

To me, the ideal place would be about 6+ designers, each one responsible for client relations, art direction, production, etc (but each would specialize in something different...ie, motion graphics, 3d, print, web, programming, etc).
All profit is split equally. Oh yeah, we'd also have a game room and our pets would be welcome.
Definitely something that can be done.

If there is one thing I've learnt about company structure/outlook - work somewhere with a former-creative at the helm.
We have account-heavy management, so their priority is billing and er, billing.
A boss with creative creds has creative pride and motives, and knows that if you get known for creative work, clients will come to you for conceptualisation over quick-turnaround.

True. But a hot ass receptionist keeps you work late, even if it's in false hope
