i doubt they're worse than fords and their unexplainable fires. but i agree some VW aren't very reliable. the first model year of any car will have problems. All common problems with these mark 4 cars i.e. window regs, coilpacks, 2nd gear grind have been fixed. my 2004 GTi have no problems and runs very strong same goes with the 2000 Golf 1.8T.

a lot of those problems are most likely the check engine light coming on from not tightening the gas cap all the way. if it's not tightened all the way, the car thinks that there's a leak and the CEL lights up.

my wife has a 2004 VW beetle convertible. haven't had any problems with it but I don't really like how it handles - its fast as fuck (turbo) - but the suspension is shite and it has as much torque as a salmon

I've been obsessed with VW for a very long time.. and I definitely have plans to purchase a jetta. Now that i've started a new job that will probably happen within the year and I'm very exccited. When i'm not on NT i'm here. http://www.vwvortex.com
All car manufacturers have problems... not just VW. But I am kinda crossing my fingers that I get a good one. :)

what's yours?Monday is my first official day at my new job.. and i'm thrilled to say i'm finally going to be making real money doing design.
Soo, getting a new car is high on my list. Its really tempting to go after an Audi, but I think i'll settle for a Jetta and save a little money.. (or spend it on aftermarket mods)
