if you dont want to splash out on an ipod or still feel they are too much of a "brick in my pocket" (as are those big jukebox things).
i opted for creative labs 4 gig player. it cost me £164 and im more than impressed with it.
i read a load of reviews online before buying it. it is CHEAPER and blows the tits off the 4 gig ipod which it has been brought out to compete against. BETTER SOUND AND BETTER BATTERY length. plus its about 3/4 the size of the smallest MD players you get.

oh, but if you get her an ipod, you gotta make sure she wears the headphone wires outside her clothing in full view as she walks along the street to get the full "look at me - i've bought an ipod" or "mug me - ive got an ipod" or "shoot me! - ive got an ipod"

I witnessed a guy wearing an iPod on the train (London) the other day sit next to me at a table seat, open his laptop case, boot-up lap top which took 5min+ (old Thinkpad I think), 'read' (i.e. scroll importantly up and down a few times) two pages of a random PDF, shutdown laptop and get off train after one stop.
Now WHAT music do you think this guy was listening to that demanded £400 of hardware in his pocket?
