my client wants to be able to update his site (the copy) by himself, how should i go about this? teach him to use dreamweaver or setup something else?

you have a few options
1) tell him to eat a dick and pay you to update it
2) you can call text files that he can update and repost to the site never touching your html
3) show him how to use dreamweaver, hope he fucks up your design, charge him to fix it.

database and some programming.
last thing you want is your client going into dreamweaver and ruining the whole layout.

use macromedia contribute..
then he won't have to touch the code.

"eat dick"?
nice one.

what smelly said

right on, i don't do any of the back end so i'll have to findsome one, or do a hatch job, hehehe. cool thanks guys!

setting up a db driven site will ultimately alleviate any future content adding headaches.
On the otherhand, you can set up the dreamweaver file(s) as a template, then only specified areas are editable - that way it won't jack your design

yeah, look into Macromedia's Contribute...
- soynutz70
Never heard of Contribute, let me take a gander...

i've used 'moveable type' on a few sites for bands so they can update their own news section... its kind of a bitch to set up though. it basically works like blog software
- soynutz70
so how does Contribute work?
- smellvetica0
read the macromedia site... jeeezuz! ;)
- Clear0
Contribue is like a cut down version of Dreamweaver. You can have them edit their site with it and you can set in Dreamweaver what areas you'll let them effect... I was looking into it for the company I work for.

thanks Clear, and for you smells... i'm lazy, can't help but look for the easiest way out. so i'd rather pick the brains that read a doc.
- soynutz70
so do you think i should charge the client for the price of the software, so just buy, and rip him a copy to use? is this a silly question?

Contribute or any CMS.
