If your commute is on Boston's public transportation, I'd go for it. You could read the paper, do your research/homework, or close your eyes and meditate, making use out of those hours. But in your car, maybe a greater toll on you mentally.

good post motormel - an hour commute on public transport is always more calming than driving yourself.
i hate driving here - stresses me out - 30 mins each way with idiots on teh road

Do it! Depending on what it is you'll be doing, 80K is alot! I know a few interactive firm owners in B-town who can't afford to pay near that!
...and public transportation is so pervasive there that chances are there's a commuter line close by.
I used to live at the corner of Fenway and Hemenway. :(
