Me and the Mrs. are headed out to San Diego permanantly next month and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of where to live. Got any good, clean, nice complexes or buildings to clue me in on?
We have some ideas from the websites and are looking for some input from the locals.
thanks!
(ps: and for the haters, save the anti-san diego b.s. the jobs are taken care of, and we know what we are getting into...)

a buddie lives about 15 min from the ocean in someplace called orange something right by san diego. he says it's cheaper and still just as nice. and it's a hop skip and a jump to san diego.

oceanisde is full of marines. stay by the beach or the north county and you can't go wrong...besides oceanside (which is in north county)
actually oceanside has some nice areas but for the most part, ghetto and marine land.

Encinitas and Carlsbad are really cool beach towns. good bars, good beaches and the people are really cool.

where are your jobs located?

There are lots of nice new lofts in the gaslamp district. If you can afford them you'll be able to walk to all kinds of great stuff.

I lived in Encinitas and Oceanside.
Try to stay near Encinitas or Cardiff if you can afford it.
All of the beach areas between Carlsbad and Solana are nice.We moved to Oceanside to buy a house and I always missed Encinitas.

yeah, i live in Encinitas right now and it's super nice. i love it.

I was at my friend's loft downtown a few months ago and I was very impressed. Not much more expensive than anywhere in that town. Everything you need is walking distance.
I would definitely keep your work location in mind. Traffic can ba bitch even with that ocean breeze blowing thorugh your car.

i agree. traffic here sucks. almost as bad as Hell-A. i would stay close to wherever you work.

Thanks yo!
Yes, I am going to be working near downtown and the park, on Bankers Hill, so we were looking in that area. As for the wife, she doesn't count, she's gotta better ride (its brand new)!! I drive about 45 min both ways right now, so driving isn't a biggie.
I got peeps that live in encinitas right now and they love it... we are somewhat looking at downtown and the park area, as well as mission/fashion valley.
Any other thoughts?

i recently moved from del mar which is a great beach town if you can avoid the snobby people. it entirely depends on what sort of things you're into and how much you can afford to pay in order to determine where you should be.
