Nujabes do have an album out, but only out in japan, and even then it's hard to find there....or so a friend there says. But I've been able to d/l 13 of 15 tracks from it via gnutella.
I also copped a Nujabes 12" single here in the states. I have no idea what posessed them to release a single over here without any promotion whatsoever, it was like four copies and they're still sitting in the record store. And the track was the weakest one of the album. But, it's here afterall. No idea what their label is planning with NA releases.

I was under the impression that it was just one dude.
Was the single you grabbed just an instrumental or was it with Apani or Substantial? I would've walked right by the newer ones I got if it hadn't been for the wicked cover art, and of course knowing what it was.

aphex twin's 26 remixes for cash is a good collection of ambient, if you are into aphex.
For more jazzy hip-hop sorta sounds i usually turn to mark farina, his entire mushroom jazz series is extremely good, and his new one air farina is more house, but still really good.

greyboy is always good as well.
its funny though, you say its music you don't need to think about.
True, but I when I do think about music I find ambient chill types of music far more interesting than top 40.

the single was F.I.L.O. ny Nujabes & Shingo.02. Full single, complete with LP Version, Instru, no b-side track. And it was straight from their album (it's called Metaphorical Music, although come to think of it, the cover doesn't mention the album at all).
Think Nujabes is a duo. Not sure...whoever introduced them to me said they were a group. but whatever, can't find evidence of that on google right now...
