can anyone suggest some funky sorta ambient music? The kind of stuff that you dont have to think to listen to, its just in the background - working music... no babbling brooks or shite like that tho...

iTunes has a radio station called Groove Salad like that. And some of the ambient stuff on Live365 is good for chillin' too

Any compilation from Shadow Records. Especially the "Hed Sessions" CD's. Killer downbeat grooves.

Hey I know. Check out my friends site:
www.asylumrecordings.comHe's got a few mp3 downloads there. His 74.5BPM mix is great. It's only 12 minutes long though so it'll leave you wanting more. He remixed Bjork fantastically though!

hmm... i thought petestrumentals were mind-numbingly boring. ie, they're made for lyrics to flow over and they suck without them. Most every time they come up in my itunes I start thinking, what is this repetitive crap?
anyway...
here's my list:prefuse 73
Rjd2 (echo)
DJ Shadow
Nujabes
Bach
Miles Davis

I thought sorta the same thing about petestrumentals, except for Pete's Jazz, that's a hot track, good for laying something else over top, definitely. Nice to see Nujabes and RJ in yer list , kpl.
Do you know if Nujabes has an album out, I just have some of the Five Deez remixes and a couple other singles?
I'd also recommend
Eighteen St. Lounge compilations
Fat Jon
Greyboy (older stuff)
Jazzanova
Koop
Nightmares on Wax
Tommy Guerro
Aim
Bonobo
Quantic
DJ Krush
Hi Fidelity Dub Comps.
