Is it possible to import a mixed CD into itunes without getting short gaps between the tracks when it's played back?

I dont think any gaps are set on import. You can set croosfade in the iTunes playback options(not sure about gaps), and you can set gaps (or no gap) when burning a CD from iTunes.

rip the mix as one whole track. go Advanced/Join CD tracks

like ribit said you can use the crossfade in itunes, it's not perfect but if you set the crossfade time to 0 seconds that's the smoothest i've found.
alternatively you could import the whole cd as a single song, just open the first track on the cd, get info on it and in the options set the end time of the track to be the full length of the cd, which you should have displayed on the bottom of the itunes window.

If you don't want gaps in iTunes just set the crossfade to 0 seconds.
If you don't want gaps when you're listening on an iPod you'll need to 'join cd tracks' when you import the CD.

Settingx-fade to 0 still skips a beat in the mix.
Importing as one track works but it's a bit of an arse really and doesn't allow you to skip between track marks in the mix.
Where do I find the 'join cd tracks' option it's not under the 'advanced' tab as described?
Thnx for replies so far though.

if you wanted to you could easily do it with an external sound editor. there are many options to combine .cda formatted files and export as .mp3 for playback in iTunes. etc, etc. limitless.

.cue sheets maybe?

This may be a stupid question but... Do you have to go :
file>Add folder to library
every time I add music to my library. Can't itunes automatically detect what files are in the main folder and display them. Other programs I've used do this.

I think it's because the workflow is meant to be that you import/drag incoming stuff to the Library (letting iTunes add it to the right folders) rather than you ever messing around with the folder structure directly.
