does anyone know if there is a way to play a life MP3 stream through flash?

good question, I would like to hear some insights on this as well.

well, I'm not so sure it would be considered an .mp3 file, but you can stream live video/audio footage through an application such as Flash. Theoretically, you could probably do it easier with audio than video. Let's say you set something up to record and then output that data through your choice of application like Flash, using Flash Remoting or some server configuration set up.

well, if this article is at Macromedia itself, then I am sure it can be done: http://www.macromedia.com/suppor…

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'live' dude.

ah, a live stream. yes that would be pretty cool. you could get php or something to output mp3 headers that are being generated by a linux box and encoded through LAME. a little tricky but definately possible.

what about just a radio, not live?
would it be too large in Flash?
- JazX0
well don't look at Flash as being the file that is holding it. Look at Flash as being the interface that is pushing it out, you for sure would be using XML to control that. It is 100% possible.

would it be a list of files or just one huge mp3 file?
- JazX0
in other words, Flash would be using XML to bring in that radio broadcast and push it out. http://www.macromedia.com/devnet…

The Flash Communication Server API (Application Program Interface) gives you a set of objects, methods, and commands that you can use to develop applications that use the Client, the Server, or an integration of both.
The client-side API, located within the Macromedia Flash MX authoring environment, deploys the NetStream object, its methods, and its properties to make it possible for you to publish, control, and play MP3 files. Using this object, you can write application logic directly into the application (the movie file) or to *.as files. You can deploy the .as files within your application with the #include method. In this tutorial, you will write the application logic directly into the movie.

you'd basically be using Flash, AS, XML, a dB of your choice and Flash Communication Server and some scripting language depends.

com server costs a fortune. you could do it just as fast and nice with remoting
