I blame design schools and their 'education'

its amazing how literal everything has to be to some people, can't you just ride a concept, can't you begin to feel and understand? It must be so painful to need full explanations for everything, what a square world you must inhabit.

You have to think beyond the fact that the original ads are for an Apple product. That's irrelevant in of itself. That the ads are brilliant lifestyle conceits and what we're 'sold' about Iraq is different sort of conceit for a different product, though the means are more or less the same. You're on to it, winter.

i in no way shape or form contributed to this war. i eat, sleep, shop and exist to live, not live to shop, eat, drink and spend to spend. don't put me in that class.
i agree the headphone makes absolutely no sense unless it's some new kind of mp3 playing weapons.

...on the iRaq posters, it's been done before, subverted, pastiched, borrowed, stolen, reworked... but if the 'artist's' work managed to provoke discourse it works on the intended level right ?

I just think it's a tiny bit hypocritical to have a discussion about it HERE, where 99% of the people own an iPod. So, play your music, don't worry about politics and shut the fuck up, please.

'the headphones make no sense' - WHO GIVES A FUCK?
"but if the 'artist's' work managed to provoke discourse it works on the intended level right?" - exactly.
uuuuhfggh

It's nice to see, but it's been done so much it's lost it's efficacy. People just see it as a spoof.

*kill thread*

christ i think the topical nature and humour of this poster campaign has now been safely analysed out of all proportion.

The really worrying thing, judging by some of the responses here, is that a good many of us (designers) are not willing to think outside the box.
One message: Don't believe the hype.
Another one: think for yourselves.
- smellvetica0
what box?
ergh, i hate that wanky marketing phrase.
- rasko40
I think therefore I am, NOT I am therefore I dont think.
jaysus I give up... duh..
vespa.. yes, sad how people want to suck the life out of everything rather than just to enjoy and be playful..

from a design standpoint, lose the headphone wire is all I am saying. It doesn't add to the design, if anything it takes away from it.

i'm just saying that that was an easy target and a lame idea. just like the tank with the oil company logos on it and the flag with oil company logos on it. tha'ts easy shit. come up with something else for gods sake. i can see outside the box but this to me is just and the artist took an easy way out at making a statement.
*walks out of thread
- winter0
yeah rasko, that's the easy way.

I think the placement if the posters (in the first image) is a strike of genius...
...as for the posters themselves, the message is quite clear. 10,000 iraqi's killed. 773 US soldiers killed (although it does now stand at 850+).
It's unfortunate that it's the overal style of the posters that seems to grab the attention.

winter, good points, but don't kill this thread, kill your iPod, turn off your TV, read a book, turn your SUV into a flower garden,,,,do all of these things if you have courage...and keep subverting
- vespa0
depressing isn't it rasko?
