check Control Panel ---Add/Remove Programs
for something that looks odd.
sometimes it installs a program, and you can remove it from there.

http://www.download.com/Bazooka-…
Get that, scan, follow directions to remove each app it finds. Make sure you're acquainted with RegEdit and searching for files.

The point of using Bazooka is it names every dll, every exe, every registry entry of spyware apps. You don't miss anything.
also
Start>run>msconfig then go to STARTUP tab

my gf infected our media pc with something like that. uninstalling won't help because it just installs itself again. i had to uninstall internet explorer entirely (which i didn't mind) and then was forced to reformat the whole damn thing (which i did mind).
good luck.

Run Spybot, Adaware, and Norton often, but don't count on them catching everything.
I had one f*cker that kept reinstalling itself after I deleted every file in Safe Mode, then would open windows and bring me to a site and then attempt to download a virus (that, thankfully, Norton caught).
I had to go into my registry and delete all the files in my Windows > Run folder so that nothing would run on the reboots. Then I reinstalled Norton (because it wouldn't run on reboot after I deleted all the run files).
So far so good. They are getting bad. While searching for a fix, I came across a guy that got one so bad that his mother board was no longer useful (don't ask me, I am no tech geek, but he sure was and he was f*cked). The same adware stole thousands from at least one guy by getting his personal info. That's the part that scares me, reformatting is a pain, but not the end of your life. If someone took my bank accounts, that would be.

is there a way to seach for a file in regedit, instead of having to drill down throught the folders?

install zonealarm too!
it will alert you when some exe is trying to access the internet to download some more stuff, so at least you do a cut off before you do your scan.other wise you can clean up all you want but the faeces will not cease.
