its all manufactured fodder, sorta like soylent green.
except that soylent green was made out of people rather than soulless robots.

Now MTV circa 1986, that's cool.
Not just for the whole 80's are back in style thing either... at that point they were still counter culture.
Now they're pop culture...Video killed the radio star

I like your illustrations, Ricstultz.

Well miss Brooke, I'm flattered, cuz you aren't shy on talent yourself...
cheers.

the whole music industry is soulless at this point. the only ones who usually actually see past the numbers are the producers, and the musicians. everything else is completely about numbers and figures, not talent, songwriting, etc...
the teen pop world is a complete marketed entity. always has been driven by numbers and figures, not music. if for any moment, you think mtv is providing their service with a purpose other than to market to this crowd, you're completly off.
the music industry in the US sucks. go out and see a show!
damn, that brings in clear channel, which is a whole new bag of worms

"damn, that brings in clear channel, which is a whole new bag of worms "
dont even get me started!

lol
end of the day...we are to blame...us designers should stand up to not only the ashleys, jessicas and clear channels.....but to the whole bastardification of popular culture. I like mass media and i like the power popular culture has over us. we must start doing our part to contribute.
- jpea0
usually, i think it's marketers who are more to blame (not trying to pass the buck, just think realistically).
how many marketers have you known who actually do what's right for the product at hand? In my experience, they usually grab what's been proven to work, make a shitty ass campaign about it, and tell the designers to implement it. in many many big companies (not small studios i guess), designers are treated just like a person who puts up drywall, or a street paver. we implement the projects. the shitty ass marketers think it up.just my cents
- zedvox0
i guess we should then stand up to it...we are at fault as well if we treat our profession as a skill .
anyways i am still young..lets see if i am still standing by my words once i get in the professional market........
hahaha

that, and clear channel it soulless (but the people who work there really aren't!)
i have a good friend who used to work for CC, then when CC sold the arena she worked for, she transferred over to the new arena management co. not owned by CC. She loved working for CC, and all the people she worked with, seemed really nice and extremely into the music to me. nice bunch of people.
oh, and this is coming from me, who wears a 'clear channel sucks' t-shirt to many shows.
overall, pretty impressed with the quality of people they have working in the ranks there. they do it for the music. (not CC as a publically traded company though.. it deserves to die)

yeah, i'd agree. we should stand up more, but sadly, the ones who give me my paycheck are the ones who hold the cards.
