i recommend getting one....I got a loan out when I was at college and bought one of the original imacs. I wouldn't of passed my degree if it wasn't for that. Can't believe I paid over £1200 for it, can buy them on ebay now for £50!!! Although my 17"PB now rocks WUUURRRDDD!!!

okay, so good so far, anyone else?
convince me to get a loan!

imagine all the chicks u will get with a g5 ;)

If I was you I would get a good second hand G4 1Ghz or above. You can pick one up for about £500 -600.
Then when you are working full-time get a G5. Loans are crap. To mush interest.

seems like a luxury born out of gadgetry fetish rather than a genuine need for a tool, just ask yourself, 'will I be happy paying back a loan when the novelty has worn off and its out of date?'
face it - your dont NEED one, you want one.

two words: dyslexia test.
- christoff0
hmmm but i thought they only gave you spakmacs if you passed the dyslexia test...hmm...i wonder if im dyslexic too...hmm oh these words are all floaty...oh me help arghh happens has what.
- rasko40
dyslexia is in fact a harrowing and debilitating reality for some people.
- christoff0
youre right, it does suck. two of my closest friends is so dyslexic, but they use typewriters and things to type and they rock. it doesnt have to be at all harrowing or debilitating for people anymore because its much more easily recognised and more provisions are put aside to help people. so back to this test..where do i sign up....
- hooked0
i'm sure it is, i never meant to mock. its just a statistically higher amount of people at art/design college seem to be afflicted. so it makes sense to have the test.
one of my friends got a G5, a huge flatscreen (having half heartedly taken a sight test, and an Ipod which she claimed was for recording lectures.
- christoff0
shit im taking that damn test!!
- waynepixel0
Ya me. Should I be a graphic design if I have dyslexia.
Too late now.

Being in debt really sucks, unless you can totally guarantee you're going to earn $X per month.. but almost no-one has this guarantee! However, credit is useful when you're making a wise investment in your future.
So.. I'd say a 'wise investment' would probably be trying to pick up a really high end G4, or perhaps just the dual G5 1.8GHz, rather than going all out just because it's a loan.
Even my iBook 1GHz is just about fast enough to do most graphics work (although it'd suck on the 100MB+ high res print stuff). You really need to max out the RAM on whatever you get and make sure (if it's a notebook) you have a fast drive. CPU isn't quite so important.
Last, but not least, I have a client (repro house) who still do mega print jobs on beige PowerMac G3s (400MHz and less)! So.. really.. as long as you max out the RAM, you don't necessarily need the G5, unless it's an image thing.

"and an Ipod which she claimed was for recording lectures. " Cannot believe she got away with that!!
I think you gave to pay for the test, and I reacon they can sniff out 'fakers'
I think you get given a budget to buy what ya like a few friends of mine did it and got some kick ass computers.
If you don't do the test I would get a Mac anyway. It was the best move I made cause when everyone was arguing about computer allocation I was sitting at home getting onm with it.
I got a mac at the end of my first year cause I wanted to learn how the computert actually functioned, rather than hasseling the techies to fix my problem.
Bite the bullit and get one....

A few years ago my girlfriend got got a Free G3 printer scanner and a book allowance for being dyslexic. After college she sold the lot for over a grand...

DONT DO IT,
I got a apple loan for my powerbook
i was late once due to unemployment and they jacked my interest up to 26.99%
when i call them to try to get it lowered they say it is fixed and cant touch it. 3 years later and i am still paying on this thing
