- sputnik0
no but i can't wait. a buddy of mine saw it and said it was brilliant and funny.

-fellow idahoan directed it, thank you very much
*bow*
sounds like it's pretty good for a directorial debut too, and Hess used just a fraction of the budget similar movies would require... i'm stoked to see it

Looks likes a synthesis of "The Graduate" and "Welcome to the Doll House". I'm in.

also looks like its got a bit of the royal tennenbaums and rushmore in it.
i love both of those.

Watched the trailer. It looks awesome. I love when he does that karate kick in the hallway!

"You ever take it off any sweet jumps?"
- Mimio0
You're right... this is a total borrowing of the Dudley Heinsbergen character from the Royal Tennenbaums.

I haven't seen it yet (will tonight), but...
judging from the reviews and the trailer, this is a very stark flick. Anderson is over-the-top/baroque/pastiche.
wes doesn't own the modern comedic character study.
i'll buy the nichols-solondz comment though.

doh..
are we talking about 'dynomite' directed by hess, or 'the life aquatic', directed by anderson?i heard rave things about 'aquatic' but havent heard anything bout 'dynomite'...
- Value0
i heard it was pretty bad.
- Tyrone0
It was funny as hell. Best movie I've seen in a while.
- Value0
really? i am so relieved. i had only heard iffy things about it.

I thought it was really good. Really funny. But the Wes Anderson comparisions are warranted... even down to the titling.
i don't think it is as smart as a Wes Anderson film, but I did laugh throughout the entire movie.
oh and Pedro = Hess's Kumar Pallana

I think this movie is more Todd Solondz than Wes Anderson. Except the humor here is nowhere near as dark or poignant.
I enjoyed the movie quite a bit - especially the first half. After a while the humor thins out a bit, but still works more often than not.
Oh, and this is definitely the most quotable movie I've seen in quite some time.
I recommend it.
BTW, did anyone else sense sexual tension between the brother and uncle??
