Pureply out of interest and if you don't mind me asking - what are the homeowners here paying in mortgage payments each month and where do you live?

$1500 and change a month 5 year fixed mortgage then I get the going interest rate. This is good if you don't plan on being in a place more than 5 years... like myself. This December will be 4 and I'm looking to sell my home now. Any takers? Suburbs of Chicago. It's a 2 bedroom with loft and 2 car garage.

wow...quite a variation coming through...thanks for all the info.
Reason I'm asking is cos the mortgage is about to come thru on my new place and I was wondering if I was getting a good rate - looks like it will be a 5.6% ARM for 5 yrs and about $1,900 a month for a 3 bed 2,200sq ft new home here in denver...which is way less than I was paying in rent for a 900sq ft 1 bed place in london!

in the USA it totally depends on where you live and what your local or state taxes are. I own a house and rent a better and newer and conteporary apartment. I only pay $300 per month for the house and rent it out to nice people for $650, so it's $350 proft. However, with that being said, the property taxes in Allegheny county, Pittsburgh, PA are high as hell.

I would imagine in the State of Colorado that mortgages are either very low or very high, no in-betweeners

£240/month just after the recent increases. Plus £80 endowment (£40pp).

Boulder houses go for 400 and up.
In denver if you live in the ghetto you can still get one for 140 and up.
Denver has one of the fastest growing property values in the country . great place to buy for investment.

Kona, have you any idea what it's like to own in the city? I only rent here, but it's pure horror when it comes to owning a condo or home in Chicago. I know you've said you wished you lived in the city again, but then again, you've got some peace of mind to not pay the prices people have downtown and such.
