Flash XML streams

I am learning about using XML and flash text objects, external CSS etc etc.
I want to know if there are any free XML services out there so I can try out importing some live XML streams.
For example sites that offer access to XML files that track a sporting event, or live news stats etc etc.
Has anyone any examples of a flash site using live XML streams effectively?
Thanks

the only free xml socket server (it sounds like that's what you're after) i've found is http://www.oregano-server.org - i'd be interested to know if anyone has used this

Thanks mirola, very interesting service but wasnt what I was looking for.
Im looking for real time XML that is being constantly updated, I dont think they offer that.
In fact I am starting to realise thats its probably very difficult to access these kind of things without paying an enormous amount of money.
Perhaps I might try to emulate an XML steam. Anyone done this? mirola?

you need a daemon on the server that will push the data you want to the user through flash via an xml socket. this can be in c++ or perl or python or java or summink like that. that oregano thing will do that, as will colin moock's unity - http://www.moock.org/unity/ - i've never got any of these to work with our firewall though i think because of the port they use. i've only ever got flash comm server to work properly but that is (although recently come down in price) costly at about £500 for a license for 500 users (i think).
i think you could also use this but i don't know how stable it would be

Thansk Mirola, I didnt realise that Remoting was neccessary to do this.
I thought it was just a case of regularly refreshing the XML object from Flash.
Its all a bit complicated no?
- mirola0
you don't *have* to use remoting but yeah it can be complicated. that's why macromedia can charge what they do for their server. if you were to just keep on polling a server to find out what had changed you'll find that the processing on that server would rocket because it needs to open a new connection each time it sends back the enquiry or even receives it.
it's a big can of smelly worms, unfortunately.

I'm just reading to see if Ghostwires phpObject can do it for me?
This was the most uncomplicated of all the flash remoting services I have found and it actually works.
I'm not sure if it can create an XML socket /Daemon for me though, just reading the documentation.

there are tons of them around the net, google.com might be a good place to search for them. or even do an XML search at this site ;)

Unfit - thanks for those, have you got one of those socket things pushing the XML to your flash or are you polling?
Can you or anyone else suggest the simplest way of setting up an XML socket with flash?
thanks

not until now. Only use RSS in conjuction with PHP to retrieve the XML [with some refreshing Interval].
But that may be an interesting option.

can you expand (not literally as it might hurt)? with reference to your "...not until now"What is not until now?
Why would I need to retrieve the XML in conjunction with PHP?
What interval would you suggest?
Thanks

I prefer to send a database query to flash as an XML object instead of a long string [one dimensional].
Regarding RSS, I just use PHP to send a 'cleaner', smaller XML. Most of the feeds bring a shitload of attribute, id's and dispensable nodes....
