my address book has completely crapped out on me. just decided not to open, says its open but nothing comes up.
is there anyway of getting it back without having to reinstall OSX? all my contacts are in there.
can't find a download for the address book app anywhere...
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

That happens from time to time with my Phototshop. I'll be working just fine, then I go to another open app and back, and it's gone. It's open in the open apps doc, but it's not there on my desk top. I usually quit out and relaunch and it's fine. Annoying yes. but not seemingly dire.

when apps refuse to open, i usually run a utility like onyx. restart and everything is back to normal.

Repair your permissions and the disk. That might help.
Path: Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility
Hope it helps.

it's easy to forget to repair permissions. that usually remedies little problems like this.
check it out as another user, troubleshoot that scenario.

of course, if you synced with another device previously, delete:
user > library > application support > addressbook > AddressBook.data
then re-sync

'Cocktail' is great for these things. Repairs permissions and does all kinds of other clean ups. I run it everyday.

Check your fonts. I used to have the same problem with Add.Book and it was all "helvetica's" fault. Sometimes fonts get corrupted and that f*cks up some applications. Replace the damaged font and voilaa.

i repaired permissions using the OSX disk utility, but that didn't seem to do the trick.
i've downloaded the cocktail app but thats just going to do the same thing right?
all my fonts seem to be ok.
its very frustrating to see its open in your dock but nothing there eh!?
not sure what to do now. even if i can't save all my contacts, i still like the address book, can i download it anywhere...
any other addy apps you may recommend?
thanks for all your help, its greatly appreciated.

check your crash log.

I had the same problem, never found a fix for it and ended up doing a full reinstall.
There is some program that can install only certain bits of the OS but it didn't fix the Address Book for me.

you can back up your data base in Address book and then revert. I usually keep a spare copy of the data base somewhere so that i can just replace and revert when i need to.

did you try logging out yet?

You can save your contacts by exporting a vcard... also log in as another user to see if the app still wont launch...if it wont your permissions are messed.
