I have client that wants me to do artwork for a flyer..
when I asked size, he said half a page.
What are the exact measures for half a page?thanks in advance
- story0
for a letter size 8.5x11, half a page would be 5.5x8.5
- ad10
a5 maybe?
- Soler0
8.5 x 5.5
i almost didn't want to even answer that is so dumb

half a page of what, A4?
you need more info from the client!

well I guess he's in US so probably hasn't ever imagined that anything but US standards could exist...
so is 'half a page' a standard industry term now?

My problem is that eventough I been here for almost 3 years I still cant get used to inches, galons, yards, miles pounds and ounces (well that last one I might know a little better :)
And I work freelance, so Im slowly getting into print on my own, and in my house I have no one to ask, thats all.. its different when you work at an office.. I guess..
thanks anyways !

word up.

for a standard newspaper it'd be:
3col. x 21"
or,
6col. x 10.5"

(check with the pub)

what tny is getting accross is ad spaces for publications. like if they are selling a half page ad, the sizes vary depending on the size of the pub.

i suppose meeklo you just need to know the right questions to ask when the client gets in touch requesting a print job. It took me a while to get into the print thing so it will come in time. Just remember to ask more specifics on the size eg if the client asks for a page you need to ask them is that A4, A5? Also you need to get quantity, full colour, pages etc all the other stuff I suppose is self-explanitry. I would then get the client to email you their spec (or what you discussed) so you both understand what exactly you are doing and what the client wants - saves confusion.
well thats what i do and it works for me! :)

a half of what? yeah!

many magazines have a standard size of 8.375 x 10.875".
also - when you pay for a half-page, you are almost never going to get a full bleed area. Many magazines still run the folios beneath ads and i would expect a .125" margin or greater around the page AND between the other ads or text.
Newspaper have no set standard and are wildly different for each and every one.
so no... half page is not 5.5 x 8.5"
you should get a better answer from your rep. They (whatever they may be) should have a diagram of how ads are placed and the exact sizes you need to submit.
- Dita_kz0
oops are we talking advertising sizes here?!!
sorry - well what Gorbie says!
- Gorbie0
i totally misread that... sorry.
is it a flyer for an insert in a publication?
if not - it shouldn't matter at all.
- Dita_kz0
hahahahahaha! I think we all getting confused

but what i said should be tatooed on every designer's arm. I hate getting ads that are like 13.1875" x 3.625" - what the fuck is that????
- Dita_kz0
