hi i have just finished my second year at uni in Software Engineering - im doing ok but i just cant do it anymore - driving me crazy - if i created a web design/development portfolio that was a very good standard is this the right way to go to get a junior position in the web design world?

From what I have found education, seems to be bonus. If you have a decent portfolio, and have a grasp of new technologies you should be fine.
But you should atleast try and finish your degree you've done two years. Do they not offer a three year degree, or maybe you could change programs and still use some of your credits.

in the end your capabilities demonstrated with a solid portfolio will get you the job. i am a drop out myself and have done quite well. Not having that degree has made it an uphill battle though. it hangs over your head like a dark cloud at times.
good luck.

youre going to be more comfortable in the field if you finish your degree.
and education is key in any field, so id stick with it, man.
the more education the more power you have over most people in ANY field, it is a powerful thing.
hey, kobe didnt go to college, and lookat him now; complaining because he isnt winning. sorry, had to add that in there.
