i know i have been hijacked by a trojan horse. whenever i type anything in (ie google) it will always redirect me to hand-book.com. this will always put porn links in my favorites folder no matter how many times i delete them and restart.
i found this link:http://www.sophos.com/virus...
and just wanted to know if any of you guys have had a similar experience. i don't want to download more shit i don't need, but i do need to get rid of this trojan bastard! any suggestions?
oh, and on a side note i also get the n_gage file update all the time to (not n-gauge by nokia, but the fucked up virus/company)
any help/insight is much appreciated.
thank,
nathan

oh, and i also failed to mention that i rebooted my machine 6 or 7 times before it actually made it through the boot session!(every other time it got stuck on the microsoft 'welcome' page and just at there. well, it just sat there right after my harddrive made a grind noise. what the fuck? i have only had this computer a little over a year. am i already going to have to buy a new harddrive? man, now i understand why people like macs

thank mrock for the quick response.
unfotunately i have already run those programs and even they can't get rid of them, from what i have read this virus changes it's name all the time, thus repopulating your HD with another new .exe upon reboot. this is a serious pain in the ass : (

SpyHunter?http://www.enigmasoftw... sorry to keep throwing stuff at you, but I had the same problem and aside from using all these software blockers I also went to my task manager in (W2k) to see what was running in memory, found the .exe files, and ran a google search on it. It was kind of tedious but it kept my from having to reinstall my 80G HD. good luck!!

i'm just really sick of dealing with these spam hackers uggh. the internet used to be a good place (well, maybe not) but all of this shit is just plain annoying. ahhh, oh well, i'm off to bed. thanks for the insight though.

Ok, stop freaking out. Get Bazooka Scanner from http://www.download.com and get intimate with your Registry and "Search" function. It targets and gives directios for removal of specific registry keys and the dll's that make up pretty much every spyware app out there.
Now, when you just sit at the welcome screen, it's because the "trojan" as you put it is running processes. If you wait long enough it will eventually let you login.
It's most likely just spyware/adware that, technically, is a trojan, but is intended to advertise to you by changing search engine results, launching pop-ups and adding bogus favorites.

freaking out?! what do you mean : )
just kidding. thanks fate. i will do that and hopefully that will solve the problem. and if doesn't, magicpatch, i'm going with your suggestion :D
