all the reviews i read were pretty bad.
i'm looking to buy a digital camera in the $600 area. any words of wisdom?

Are you looking for something small like that camera? What specs do you want?
- yott0
basically good resolution (5 MegaPixel) reasonable video+sound ( i got a decent dv so i don't need to be really good). reachargable battery... nothing out of the ordinary.
and no, it doesnt have to be as small and as damn sexy as this one.

one rule..
Get a camera with a nice big lense.. the t1 might have 5 mp but the lense is the size of a pinhead.. so when you take a picture of door, it will bend the straight on the door line a little bit due to the small lense...
this is what i would buy if i was you!

it cost a little more but well worth the extra cash.!

My buddy ha sthe CoolPix by Nikon, they have 3, 4, and 5 mp, a great detailed zoom, and they have pretty cool vidoe, not sure about audio. the shots are great though, I'm jealous.

Save up a little more and buy the Canon digital rebel.

i bought the fuji f5000 and it has been a great camera. it has a 10x normal zoom! the colors are vibrant and it has a ton of settings.

i think it's down to these 2:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/…anyone has one of them?

those two aren't even in the same league. that's no choice at all. go for the powershot g5. check the specs on the lense. a lot better.

get a cannon ixus
- yott0
i saw the specs but the reviewer was so over enthusiastic about the S50...
i don't know much about photography, is it really that much of a difference?
- rabattski0
lenses are the most important thing on a camera. and i can't stress the word "the" enough.
just check the specs. you'll also see that the G5 will work a lot better in low light conditions (which is very nice) and has more zoom as well (150mm vs 105mm).
- yott0
thnx rabattski, i guess i'll go for the g5
- unsexypixel0
portability also comes into play. that g5 looks kinda large, in other words you'll only take it with you when you want to take photos. you will not enjoy bringing it with you everywhere. if you get a smaller camera you will get alot more enjoyable photos. unless you want it for serious photography, then id say the g5, but if its just for candid snaps and the odd sunset/scenery shot, i'd say get the smaller camera. but if you want to be serious about it get a digital slr so you can add infinite amount of things to it.
- rabattski0
true. and a good point. depends on what you want. but if one of those things is professional than i would go for the G5. business before pleasure :)
- yott0
yeah, not really sure as to how much it will be used for each purpose but in any way i'd rather carry the bigger camera than be dissapointed with the results...
- rabattski0
shame that no one here has either one of those cameras to get some solid feedback. maybe you should check user's experiences online or something. it's still quite some money you're going to spend.

ive had two canon and 2 sonys and i have to say that canon are by far my favourites, so you got the right brand at least
- rabattski0
do you know to happen who manufacturers the canon lenses?
- yott0
i read some users reviews in several sites and both cameras got really good reviews, also on http://www.imaging-resource.com you get pictures sample for every camera they review so i guess i'm pretty set on going with the g5. thnx guys
