portability also comes into play. that g5 looks kinda large, in other words you'll only take it with you when you want to take photos. you will not enjoy bringing it with you everywhere. if you get a smaller camera you will get alot more enjoyable photos. unless you want it for serious photography, then id say the g5, but if its just for candid snaps and the odd sunset/scenery shot, i'd say get the smaller camera. but if you want to be serious about it get a digital slr so you can add infinite amount of things to it.
