Windows OS already had a 3rd party app that you can use to cast shadow and 3d interface and select windows on desktop like longhorn and tiger few years back.
the problem at that time was that the video cards and computing power werent strong enough.

I am a PC user converted.. after using the new macs and Panther... its just amazing how crappy windows is.. even with 3rd party aps...
i guess its something you have to experiece to appriciate... there is a reason they call mac people a cult.

well i have a mac.. but i used PC at work...
they gave me a choice and i said PC.
to me, macs crash as often as my W2K

are you using Panther Dinky...
Never had my computer crash since using panther... infact nobody around my office or that i know has... the only that that has crashed has been one of (copies) of photoshop :)

it crashes like a mofo esp when i am running QT and other graphic software

you might want to reinstall everything... sounds like your having some software conflicts

I run qt, safari, classic, illy, ps, all at the same time on my G4 tower and only had a couple crashes in 2 years.
I thought it was just a given they're more stable

When installed/configured properly OSX is really stable.
I really the Mac OS, too bad I've been burned on their hardware.
