well, i think its something with Silkscreen, i used some kroeger fonts and it's fine.
does anybody have a version of silkscreen they can send me to see if mine's just corrupt, i like the way that puppy looks..

make sure that you are using it @ 8 point(or multiple, ie, 16 or 24) and have the text box x and y at whole integers.

cripes dude, i'm not a noob.

It's probably that this font was not intended for this purpose.

Yep, font failure.
http://www.pixelyn.net/fontsampl⦠offers pretty good alternatives if you're not willing to buy the Miniml-package.

Well Silkscreen (which can be found here for the person who asked: http://kottke.org/plus/type/silkā¦)
is not a vector-safe pixel font: therefor it will blur and fill when used in flash.I actually wrote Jason Kottke last year and requested a flash version of silkscreen - he sent my a beta version which works great in flash. My suggestion is you send him an email and ask him to put this version on his site finally.
As an aside Im currently working on a few pixel font families which will be available once I get the time to launch my site (preview at: http://sekati.com/type/ for those interested)

cheers nokati, i like your fonts, keep me updated!

nokati, could you post Silkscreen [vector safe] online?
thx in advance...
- Anarchitect0
btw, very nice serif fonts!
- nokati0
I would be more than happy to, but Im pretty sure doing so would be over-stepping my bounds as I recall him asking me not to distribute this as it was only a beta.
send him an email (contact info is on www.kottke.org) and see if hes willing to distro it already - and keep us posted ;)

wow, nice fonts nokati!
btw is it getting hard to find new variations in pixel fonts? only so many pixels to work with, no?

word.
nice fonts nokati.

_b_, well certainly there are limitations with whats possible within a X by Y pixel grid and letter form but the great thing with pixel fonts is that the devil really is in the details: a few pixels shifted here or there, or a unique letter can change the overall feel of a otherwise generic pixel typeface.
For example Sekati Sans (www.sekati.com/type/) is a rather generic pixel font - but (at least to me) feels more "serious" than others due to these nuances - or my "Dear Mom" vs. Susan Kare's cursive pixel font (cant remember its name but she is an amazing type designer) - the nuances/size differences are subtle but hers clearly feels more "adult" whereas mine is geared to be more "childish" - all due to some proportional/pixel diferences. It's pretty cool (at least to me) how such minute details effect how we interpret mood/style ....
