_b_, well certainly there are limitations with whats possible within a X by Y pixel grid and letter form but the great thing with pixel fonts is that the devil really is in the details: a few pixels shifted here or there, or a unique letter can change the overall feel of a otherwise generic pixel typeface.
For example Sekati Sans (www.sekati.com/type/) is a rather generic pixel font - but (at least to me) feels more "serious" than others due to these nuances - or my "Dear Mom" vs. Susan Kare's cursive pixel font (cant remember its name but she is an amazing type designer) - the nuances/size differences are subtle but hers clearly feels more "adult" whereas mine is geared to be more "childish" - all due to some proportional/pixel diferences. It's pretty cool (at least to me) how such minute details effect how we interpret mood/style ....
