ok, so i am currently 'de-toys'r'us-ifying' my Mac. Trying to get rid of all the distracting candy store elements that are typical to os-x. i don't like them anymore.
currently my desktop looks like this:
but the dock i am still not happy about. can i just change it to something more fitting?
I don't want to use 'themes' as they are reportedly eating your memory like starving animals.
do i have to redesign my icons one by one, or does anyone have a much easier suggestion?
i don't think a dropdown would be as efficient to work with either..
i am .. kl00less..

that background hurts my eyes

thanks a lot, ribit!

I'd get depressed using a system that looked like that.

You could just install system 7.. looks about the same- looks like you need some sunlight man.

no, i used to have all these colors all over my desk!
this feels refreshing!
..and on another note, my work stands out better when i am previewing it, thus better concentration on the work = better design!
:P

uh- hit the F key in photoshop and your desktop disappears-
Or full screen in almost any app really-you know you could just use Linux if you want no real desktop and fancy icons.By the way- go to your system preferences icon/universal access... and you can switch your whole system to greyscale without bothering to waste time making greyscale 3D background and icons.

i don't mean just photoshop..
and i tried that universal access already.. but it turns everything in grayscale, actually the monitor displays only grayscale.

aargh, who bumped this thread!
damnit, i hoped it'd be gone to the deep caves of NT thread oblivion..
i changed my desktop already, cuz noone liked it.
AMAZING! I now realize i actually sit here alone changing my fucing desktop the way you fucking like it! aaargh!
anyway, they can criticize me, but if there's anyone that needs to get his desktop fixed..well... that is Mr. Paul Rabattski himself:
yiatch!

dude! wasn't there just one who didn't like it? then again, they don't have to work on your system so who cares what they say. i actually understand where you're coming from, having a desktop that doesn't distract, influence what you see. my desktop normally is just grey and has a minimum of stuff onboard as well.
anyways, that desktop you link, that's a whoooole different story. i used to rent studio space at this collective. all nice and interesting etc. but i found out later that they were (without me knowing) using my system (either to work on or to use it as a storage) which basically pissed me off big time hence that background which was used when i wasn't there or out for lunch (later i found out you could actually password protect mac os 9, duuuh) then again during those days a lot of stuff dissappeared / run out mysteriously.

hahah, nah, there was also someone telling me via msn it's shit..
but you're right.

you really shouldn't listen to those people. next time put your fingers in your ears, or eyes and hum a song really loud when someone says that. :)
