i like the ipod imagery, i think it is very powerful because of the staus of the ipod. its like see ronald mcdonald holding an m16. its getting to be as american as apple pie. it wasnt meant to be a joke. and the fact that most people do not reconginze it makes an even more powerful statement about the abillty for us (americans) to turn our heads to situations like this like we would with any street advertisement. Im a huge fan of shocking and disturbing art but sometimes you dont have to be overly graphic to get someones atttention to make a statment. i give this poster an a+

the other thing that is nice about using the ipod, is that it references the coccoon of entertainment that we use to plug our ears to what's really going on.
You see all these people rocking out to their Ipods oblivious to the world around them in their own private universes, unaffected and unaware of the world around them. What a great metaphor for the way America has insulated itself from the terrorism we are enacting in Iraq.
It also discusses the economic divide between the tortured Iraqi's and the privileged, entertainment obsessed bourgeious America that is benefiting economically from this war.
If only the detainees could enjoy the latest Coldplay album while they are being tortured, maybe they too could be oblivious to the world around them.

im sending my ipod to iraq.... actually no, im an american so im buying a bigger ipod then burning the old. You make some good points, but i really hate to break apart peoples art to find the meanings cause people do that to mine and think they know what im thinking but one time i painted this picture with people crying and screaming and it was all in red and they were all women, everybody thought it was about love or lack of love when actually it was about me being hungry for a ham sammich. Im just kidding about that, but i really do hate trying to find meaning in others work, but this time it was needed. So now im a hypocrit but i love this piece and its background. Is anyone willing to take one down and send it to me, i will pay postage.

I agree... it says more about people that don't recognise that image (perhaps it has been shown more over in the US and UK) due to their involvment.
And again it takes something (such as an iPod or the latest fad) and shows that if that is all you have to worry about something is wrong.

Why create something if you're scared of someone finding their own meaning in it? a little selfish isn't it?

to many people in the country believe in the wrong things because thats what they were told to believe in. i call it psydopatriotism. Got buy a flag window clinger when something bad happens but then say fuck you america when were at a resting point. I am proud of my country, i am glad to be an american, but i am also ashamed at our practices and corruption. regiem changes start at home.

im not scared of people finding the meaning, i just think its funny when everyone has thier own opinion of something that doesnt mean anything. i like to enjoy artwork for what it is, if i pick up a meaning great, but to stand there and brainrack myself til i find some little shred of feelng to latch onto just doesnt appeal to me. art is art, thats why a lot of people hate abstact art because they cant find the meaning, i say just enjoy it and love it.

Ipods cost way to much money. I bought a huge ugly, clunky terapin mine for $150 on ebay and it works just fine and does many more things than the dumb ass ipod. Upgrades to 60GB for next to nothing. Like so many have said "its just a mp3 player" The Ipod is capitalist marketing gone fucking manic. To even think of supporting that level of crass over-the-topness is beyond me. as far as the "toture" illus. outline goes. If its gonna shock people into VOTING the fuckin' WMD lying pig back into his white western bland guns and jesus worshiping RANCH and keep him there. All the power to it! So maby CRASS CAPITALISM is the common element. This admin with is totally documented and blatent special interests vis-a-vis this war. Many in the United States adhere to these kinds of extreme philosophies vis-a-vis capitalism.

who needs 60 gig?
i've only got 10 gigs worth of music on mine and I'm already finding that when I browse artists it takes too long... good thing about the iPod though is that it is likely that they create new software for it... so I've bought something that will improve over time.

True strabley. The poster is whatever u want it to be. Thats why i mentioned Andy Warhol.
I hate intellectualsing "quirky" posters like this, but anyway. It's like what pop-art did - it took media saturated imagery that had become iconic and decontexualised them. So that our instinct to think "consumption" is challenged. Our consumption of advertising (iPod) and our consumption of the news media (incessant broadcasts of the torture pictures to sell newspapers) is placed in the same context and shown to us as one chaotic mass of pop-culture. The artist/designer has to do nothing else. The juxtaposition itself instantly politicises desensitised, media saturated, images. I thught graphic designers wud understand the power of images. Sagmeister has made a career out of it. But then i think some people (like abizzyman up there) would prefer to see pictures of American soldiers, looking like warrior Gods, raising the stars and stripes ontop the ruins of Saddams Palace. But in the words of Ice-T, "Shit aint like that. Shit's fucked up!"

I got a Sony Net MD. Wish i got an iPod. Sony are bastards, they try and stop u from burning CDs onto MiniDisc. And their software sucks balls. Talk about clever marketing. Net MD? Therre's nothing "Net" about it. Sorry, im just bitchig, i shuda gone fo a big fat 10gig/60gig mp3 playa or sumfink. Muuuuch easier.

my god, i cant believe this thread is still going. seriously, who cares? i dont, the end not looking at this anymore.
turn your attention to whatever is teh hott?™ to gab about. this is stupid and meaningless.
- e-pill0
i just want to see the poster..up close
- warheros0
what is wrong with a NetMD? i thought it had 32x transfer rate. you cant just highlight and drag files to it? i thought that's what made it so cool and making me want it.

there are no warheros well not anymore
- warheros0
do not understand previous reply

No you can't just drag files into it. Transfer rates not all that.
It has this Check In/Check Out system on its software that is really stupid. It tries to stop u from Checkin In/Checkin Out from the same CD too many times. There's like a limit which u have to work around. And it's all user unfriendly and messy.
But it does the job. I only need it for when i'm on the train. So who cares?
- warheros0
would it be better then if your mp3's were on your computer and not on an actual bought/burned cd? would it still give you all the shit about not copying from a cd too many times?
with the MD i have now, i just let winamp play and put the 1/8" jack in the headphones jack and turn all the sounds off. convenient.

someone on this thread said that designers tend to be apolitical...
do you think this because designers are so busy trying to keep up with technology updates and current design trends that ultimately politics become less of a priority in trying to survive in this business?
