I think people like to say they use CSS for layout but I've never seen much here.... not that's complex anyway......

laboboy, about your problem. You have to set the border to 0.
Does that change anything?

Better off leaving it as one image. Less code, loads neater, and there is no difference in load time. Its the same amount of data in the end

Having said that - this site is a good example.

moth, I was about to say the same. Newstoday is still using tables to keep everything layed oud. And it works great... doesn't it.

the pure CSS sites that I've seen all look pretty much the same, nice and neat, perfect for blog sites but I haven't seen anything really complex, not that I'm saying it cant be done but that I'd like to see and know how.

nobody's helpin' hey? you must specify the table width and height too to get it tight

you're right rasko... I've played around with it, but it's a lot of fucking maths to get anything complex right.
I used to use layers when I was learning... and was told not to because they weren't netscape compatible. They're just glorfied DIV's are they not?

When you have one row with a rowspan of 4 cells and in another row with just the four cells. And the border of the table is set to 1. Isn't it normal that the second row is 3 px larger then the first row?

unless your willing to make like 3 or more different style sheets for the different browsers its still best to use a mix of css and tables. The different browsers have thier quirks.
- rasko40
yeah layers are just DIV's I think, maybe just dreamweaver got them called 'layers' I dunno, my sites a mix of DIV's and tables.. its a right mess hahah..

Xentic - do you mean cell padding? A 1 px border will only add 2px...........
- SF20
Tables with CSS is still valid XHTML. I think a lot of people think that to make a legitimate CSS site you have to throw tables away. They work brilliantly hand in hand.

Well yeah - I use CSS to add all the formating to tables... It works and sure seems easier than DIV+CSS...
- Xentic0
moth- you're right. I was looking at his code and thought it was something with the border. Didn't really think about what I wrote ;-)
Don't you think this is the problem with this table?
- SF20
DIVS and tables both have their pro's and cons. my sites have way more divs than tables but div code is efficient and way faster.

Xentic... there's lot's of problems with that table. That's why he should start again. Tables get confused when you try and split them in overly complicated ways. "If" he wanted to use that table i would use 1 row nested tables to make it like that.
Anyway. I never got this much help!!
- rasko40
the problem is he has a row with one image 70 pix high and another 42pix high, then another row with images of diferent heights and yet another row which is alongside the previous.. its all over teh shop

bingo

I'm not saying that it's the best way to do it, but it's working. I'm pretty sure he only has to change the border to 0. All the other problems are taken care of by coll- and rowspans.
