ps. all you need buddy is some better lighting.. your pics are pretty good for the most part... some are bit awkward, but if you just work on something that looks natural and with better lighting to bring out the contrast - you'll be good.. invest in a light set - tripod/remote flash etc. etc. a good cam store can set you up..

ps. go check out http://photoblogs.org.. there's some really good photographers up there that you can pull a lot from..
get into it, it's a ton of fun.

Hey thanks a lot guys.
The next time I shoot I'm going to take out some sort of reflector. I'm still in school right now so a new flash/tripod set might be out of the question, although I do understand how necessary it will be. I try to think of these set backs as challenges. I have received great ideas from everyone on how to improve. When I get a worthy amount of new content I’ll drop a line. Thanks again.

people have trashed on your shots a lot... i hate to add to the heckling. maybe you could start shooting some senior portraits and make some cash.
you have to admit the shots feel a lot like hometown senior portraits.
good luck out there.

I don't really feel like people have trashed my stuff at all. I came here to get advice and I'm pretty happy with the results.
Great idea about the senior portraits though. Now I just have to go find some old people..;)
All (or most) of the shots were taken in my backyard, or around the house. I live in a small town outside of Indianapolis, I think that feeling will just naturally work it's way into my photos. I plan on going to walmart or something and picking up a make-shift reflector and solid color background to hang up.
