just feels like I stumbled across someone personal pics directory, the pics seem shallow with no meaning or idea, they also seem to lack any real consistency or consideration on composition or lighting.
Sorry but I think you need to delve deeper.
- Dublao70
Thanks rasko - I know where you are coming from.
You just stumbled across my personl pics directory. It's kind of like a practice thing. Each photo does have a reason for being out there though. For example the barn shots were for a friend at work.
When the real portfolio goes up I doubt you will see any of this in it. but, now you guys see what I'm working with, and I can get some advice on what I have been messing around with.

I hope to add some illus. soon, the last image is a cd cover for a local heavy metal band. I guess that or the portraits are what I hope to expand on in the near future.
Rasko I did try to pay attention to composition in all of my shots. What considerations do you think I left out? Besides consistency what advice would you give me for the personal side of my portfolio?
- rasko40
they just look a little bit typical and some of them are quite blurry, I think you need to be more choosy and definately categorise them, actually have an idea of what you are aiming to achieve, perhaps you did have but it doesn't seem very obvious right now to the casual observer.
:)

I agree with rasko, everything seems posed and fake. You don't have a lot of variance in depth (all seem to be mid-range) and there's not really any interesting use of light or environment.

yeah none of the pictures make sense.

Photoshopized them... there's something to do in Photoshop

try cropping them in odd ways.
Looks like you are showing us pictures of you and your friend's trip to your Auntee's farm.
Nothing real intriguing there.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to the thread. Thanks for all the advice. I will take everything in to consideration the next time I shoot. These shots are of my friends. I’m really just getting ideas for stuff I want to do in the future. Plus I got a new camera; you know what it’s like switching from film to digital. I'm shooting anything trying get used to the new functionality. Thanks for helping me feed my curiosity!

Spend some time at http://www.photosig.com and read through the forums, articles, and submit some of your photos for critiques - you're get some good photography advice from professionals which is what will help you the most. Also think about giving up your digital camera a little and get info some film photography and it will help you understand more about exposure, depth of field, etc.

I thought that said You can be a CRT!
That'd be sweet, cause I'm like, not magnetically shielded and all.
But as to a crit, you've heard mine, but all these guys give some good feedback. Definitely do film before you do digital having that analog background of how the mechanics do what they do makesa difference, and professional input is priceless.

Who wants to be a TIT?!

You should try playing with light more in your photographs. You should buy a reflector, (or even a white piece of cardboard will do) to bounce light onto your subjects. also play with depth of field a bit more.
