I've seen enuff poverty.

that's true, you'll see it full-force

I think the Islands around the Yucatan are much nicer. Not to mention safer considering the Mexican government actually has open relations with the US.

Please be careful, if/when you go.

If Cuba doesn't work out, try Jordan or Syria.

BTW, I was a complete DUMBASS, because I went during the 'Elian Gonzales' fiasco. I just told everyone I was Canadian, it's a smart thing to do when you travel. ;)

nice...
(sfx) o, canada!

you got it, I did the same in Egypt. I was like nobody hates Canada. I'm Canadian. ;)

Well, I don't think I would have any problems being that I have a very ethnic appearance and I'm semi-fluent in the Spanish language. I'm positive I'll just blend in.
Anyway I'm just doing basic research right now. I'm looking to set something up for August.
Gives me enough time to get my U.S. passport and the right licenses from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

I'm serious though, I do not think you will find a commercial airline to fly you in from US Territory. You might need to go to Canada or Mexico and disguise it. Have fune man ;)

Canadians have had a long standing relationship with Cuba. All around Toronto there are Cuba Tourism posters throughout the winter. Castro came to Mike and Pierre Trudeaus's funerals. There are direct flights to Cuba every day from every major airport in Canada. Oliver Stone's recent documentry on Castro, "Commandante", was banned in the US, and premiered in Canada on the CBC. Cubans are not dangerous. Guantanamo Bay is dangerous.

Holy Sh*t, the Swiss will protect your ass if you get busted: http://travel.state.gov/cuba.htm…

I still can't see why anyone would want to go to Cuba.

It's not Las Vegas, if that's what you're after.

I'm going for the communism and poverty.

I've been to Cuba several times visiting my family and I would never go there and stay in one of the tourist-only hotels or go to the tourist-only restaurants. It actually made me sick to see all the Euro's and Canadians vacationing there enjoying the cheap vacation that only a completely oppressive government can provide. It seems funny to me that people rarely mention this when talking about vacationing there.

that's true

Well, human nature. People go there as if that was some kind of zoo and the thing they learn is communism is cool, great chicks, fun place.
Actually, there are humans living there in inhumane conditions, without any rights. Go and see, great bars, the booze is cheap. Shit, once I even caught myself saying "gotta go there and have a cigar on the beach before Fidel dies".

Europeans are into that 'Oppression Vacation' thing like we're into Wal-Mart....
