a highly certificable discussion about typographics needs the following inputs:
- rabattski0
to clarify rand. that's the typeface used for the german licenseplates
dutchboy: yepenisonderweg
- DutchBoy0
rabattski, you mean the very latest licenseplates?
with the euro thingy?
can you show me the G?
i can't remember that one well, neither of the cars i know of people close to me have a G in it.. :P
- Gorbie0
Here's one that I'm sure Rand knows.
- DutchBoy0
mijn penis? hehe
oh yep en is onderweg!
danke mein freund.
- rabattski0
some g's in here: http://www.sanderink-bv.nl/Servi…
just look at the curves at both ends. don't like the p with the widget like cut out. gnarly.
- Rand0
yah, gorbachev, been tempted to buy it on many an occasion!
- Gorbie0
it's very cool. those guys at orange italic do great work.
- Rand0
love that acquisition program, by the way!
- DutchBoy0
yep, that G is deffo suspicious..
i kinda liked the cutouts from the start though!
- DutchBoy0
*acquisition*
*smirks*
:P
- Gorbie0
hey rabattski,
I took a look at the FF Berlin West at FontFont.com. Yeah that's the one. They also have FF Berlin East.
good find.
can you answer the Unter Den Linden one?
- Rand0
wipe that smirk off your face, young man
- rabattski0
aaaargh..... it's 00:29.... i have to look at it later. i think i have it as well. not sure.
- DutchBoy0
@Rand: :|
a Gorbatsjov:
that reminds me an awful lot of (pre-)nazi era..
- Gorbie0
guten nacht, rabattski!
yes. I think it is DB.
actually i believe the nazi brought back the blackletter, because the sans, geometric sans was so-oo very degenerate.
(that could be very inaccurate though)
- DutchBoy0
well, yeah, could be.
the nazi's had a serious classicist(sp) fetish.
all architecture dated back to ancient Greece and Rome, even modern art in museums was removed and replaced by muscled torso's and what not.
damn nazi's.
- rabattski0
ooo hold on hold on.... i *have* to answer this. that, gorbie, is a general misconception. really everyone (even most germans) associates blackletter / gothic letter (like fraktur) with nazis. but the truth is totally the opposite. hitler officially banned blackletter, especially fraktur because it was "judenlettern" (jew lettering). instead antiqua became the standard. it's funny how it goes. he banned it and everyone think it's nazi. which is a shame because fraktur is luvly. i luv gothic / black stuff.
- rabattski0
more on that, german readers only unfortunately: http://www.typolexikon.de/f/frak…
