First off the site i did is http://troy.plizo.com for a local band here.. They paid me 50 percent up front to start and work on the site.. I got it all done, and now the client (lead singer) say it is not what they exactly wanted and doesnt want to pay. I was like what, why the hell did u have me complete after they saw all the comps and so on.. There was no contract due to being a friend of a friend. Very upset with this whole crap.. Shit I might as well put this on ebay for sale.... damn..

oh clients are asses
- plizo0
no shit... especially ones that say everything is all good till the last second of completion..

that is an absolutely AWSUM website!! well done, i love it! and ur client's a dickhead.
im on ur side ;)

that's why always ask for 80%-90% up front. Some even got away with 100% upfront
at least you got your 50% and a piece in your folio that you can reuse
- plizo0
Yeah.... I can reuse it but would rather see it go to a band now... since it is all done.. I guess even if your friend hooks u up with a friend who needs a site... u still need 75 percent or more upfront and a contract...

Thank you Corianda for the comment...

ohh that sucks man, but thats just the same old story 'bout clients!
Real nice work though!

anyone got a contract for him so he doesn't get screwed in future...?

Always get sign off for every from design to nav to content then warn them any changes will be extra, they seem to pay more attention before saying yes they like it.
Working for a friend of a friend different matter i don't do it? but they really still need to be treated like a client.
- __marc__0
Well, hope this one taught ya.
-Always always have contracts.
-Always always have clients sign off on different milestones.
-Always always have big black guys around to collect money that's due.
- t_mo0
yeah, you need the big dudes to collect. friends of a friend always take the piss cos they're friends (of a friend) and therefore you don't really mind if they dont pay you! friends of friend jobs always turn out to be the most annoying i reckon. avoid them!

Yup, alt least you got 50%. Thats something right.
One q, is the guys name really troy dixon? Sounds like a character from neighbours.

Well it seems to me that half payment gets half the site. Are you hosting the site at all? Explain to them that well when the band turns in a album and the label accepts it and then decides after releasing it that it really was not what the label wanted and thus just do not see why they should have to pay the band for the records that were sold online and instores. They should at least pay you 80% of the amount.
I agree that contracts are a MUST!....even a proposal is better than nothing.good site mate!
- smellvetica0
by the way, if you had a contract you can take them to the small claims court. i did with a client, put the case together myself and got lal the money back. this incurred a CCJ (county court judgement) on the client and his record label. he couldn't get credit again and the company was blackmarked. he has since changed the name at a further cost.

If it's only you who has the files, and have access to the server... Take the site off line and refuse to put it back up until they pay the full amount.
- smellvetica0
be careful not to slander them. put up 'this site is down due to technical difficulites', that should shock em enough. and change the access passwords

*hugs*
c'mon folks give our fellow plizo a hug.

(no groping pls)

put the site up with a big red stamp on it saying 'Site incomplete due to Bad debt'
and stitch on some really embarassing music too.
And comprimising pictures of his wife.

definately make the site inactive. If you haven't a contract that says they have to pay, then there isn't a contract that says you can't take the site down because of non-payment. It doesn't get you your cash, but then they don't have partly free nice looking site.
