It does look promising - certainly looks simpler to use than ae. I was wondering when apple or someone else would come out with a "combustion - like" motion app. I wonder though if you can work in 2d/3d space like ae or combustion. I'm sure the presets and templates suck, but the other stuff looks good.

it's probably ten times easier to use too

apple has shake.
not to mention combustion is availale for apple too.

shake and combustion are both great apps and currently available for mac but both require an initial learning period. This new motion app seems targeted to newbies who want an easier interface to work with - and it's a smart move on apples part. If you can learn FC pro - which everyone can, then you can also work this app in a weekend's time.

I looked around on the site but maybe I missed it. Does anyone know if it will support AE filters?
I suppose it would be pretty stupid not to eh?

It supports 3rd party ae filters, but not adobe native filters. In fact I'm trying to figure out what this new app can't do. There must be something. I can see adobe getting pissed at this one. Apple Shake is too high end to compete with after effects - but this one hits after effects in the balls.

It does. And Photoshop layers. Thanks to me. :)

Thanks anyways. Did anyone have a look at the requirments? The recommended is pretty steep.
Recommended system
Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5
4GB of RAM or more
Mac OS X v10.3.3 or later
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card or better
Or is this Apple trying to sell more Dual's?

I was able to install Final Cut 4 on 128MB of ram, even though the requirements were 512 or higher.
I didn't see anything on a 3d working space, which aftereffects has.

yippee... now weird dumbfucks can invade the motion graphics and broadcast design market.. like what happened with flash..
many this is gonna get ridiculous.. i'm gonna be fighting with ignorant clients who demand i use motion.. when to be honest.. it's prolly not as robust.. yeah.. you can do the same things.. but will it allow thinking outside of the box.. as much as expressions and stuff? does this mean we can't call ourselves motion graphic artists? without having knowledge of 'motion'? it's like someone coming out with a program and calling it 'graphic design' or just 'design'... kinda screws with people's resume's ;)
oh well.. i figured one day i'd be forced to have to use a mac..
just wish they'd chop the price down.. i'm tired of seeing the same crap for more expensive..
- tymeframe0
umm it's only $300
- del_razor0
talking about the price of a mac.. no way am i gonna pay that much for a computer.. when i can get the same / similar speed with more options for cheaper..

so are you making money from what you do? then you should not be complaining about the price. a computer is a tool, you pay more for a better tool.

bring it - ae sux bizalls

I wouldn't mind having both. I use more than one program for almost everything anyway. Still, I think you'd be crazy to not learn After Effects if you're serious about motion graphics. Sooner or later you are going to end up in a PC enviroment and wish you knew it...

dude im bringin back hypercard to take all you suckers down!

no scruff here... but i'm a strong beleiver that a tool is only as good as the person using it..
both mac and pc's are good at things. but if i want a fast computer.. that i can easily and cheaply upgrade.. i'll be getting a PC..
think about this much.. ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128mb... for PC is around $200 or less now.. for mac? erm.. between $300 and $400??? for the same technology? somethings wrong here.. and why should i be the one to pay more for the same thing.. it's like going to wal-mart and going to the mall... to buy batteries.. you'll get the same batteries.. but you'll pay more for them at the electronics store than you will wal-mart.. people charge more for something they think people will pay more for.. (i.e. case designers get paid out the ass)
